A truly unique and inspired collaboration from Alpha Steppa's Steppas Records, beautifully mastered and pressed to heavyweight 180g vinyl. Aketi Ray are an all-acoustic dub-jazz group from London; double bass, drums, upright piano, horns and percussion, playing original compositions grounded in the instrumental music forms of post-independence Jamaica, also drawing from Ethiopian and US jazz, West African percussion traditions, and UK Steppas. London to Kingston, to New York, to Addis Ababa, to Dakar.

This first release, comes ahead of their debut album 'From Ever Since', forthcoming on F-Ire Records in early 2017. The tracks featured here are deeply influenced by the music of Alpha & Omega. Mirror is a piece directly influenced by the classic Alpha & Omega track 'Show Me A Purpose'; a piece which explores the difficulty of coming to know oneself. Completing the circle of inspiration, Mirror is released here alongside a deep & spiritual remix from UK-dub pioneers Alpha & Omega. Aketi Ray’s Mikus says “Alpha & Omega have been a foundational influence on our sound, so it is both privilege and honour to share our debut pressing with them.” The second track 'Reflect & Rise' continues in the same key as Mirror, but moves on from a reflective mood into one that’s focussed and resolute, as encapsulated by the rallying horn arrangements of Kevin Robinson.

Mungo’s Hi Fi have been following The Hempolics for a while and were glad to get a chance to remix one of their tracks. They picked ‘Love to sing’ for it’s upfull message and joyful sound, bringing in Solo Banton for some heavyweight lyrics in the verses and giving it the Mungo’s bass treatment.

Last Tune is the first single from the forthcoming Dreadsquad album with Blackout JA - ‘World Destruction’. The track started life in San Francisco as a collaboration with Kush Arora then later Bristolian brass section Smerins Anti-Social Club added the next layer and finally Blackout came with the finishing move. Last Tune was ready to finish the dance.

This is Heavy UK Steppers style - designed for take the remaining crowd in the dance all the way through to when the lights go up. This is raw energy through and through and as Blackout shouts to the people to get even more energy it perfectly illustrates the relationship between the party and the selector.

Quatre ans après sa première sortie sur Stand High Records avec “Another Night” et suite au succès de ses deux mixtapes enregistrées pour Stand High Patrol, Stepart revient étoffer le catalogue du label avec “Playground” son premier album. Onze tracks principalement instrumentales, à l’exception d’un featuring avec Pupajim, où les basses abyssales côtoient les nappes de synthé analogiques.

Porté par des rythmiques d'une finesse redoutable et un sens de la mélodie manifeste, "Playground" révèle ses subtilités au fil des écoutes. Le souci accordé aux détails est saisissant, et l’album ne peut s’envisager autrement que dans sa globalité. Stepart y joue avec les styles. Il y présente son univers et, au grès des courant musicaux, il nous invite à arpenter ses terrains de jeux favoris.

Avec son lot de Sub Bass et ses mixs soignés, “Playground” nous renvoie à la grande époque des débuts du dubstep ; celle des LP fondateurs influencés par le reggae. Enregistré à Paris entre 2014 et 2016, l’album constitue une véritable porte ouverte sur le Lost World Studio. Libre à qui le souhaite de venir s’y installer!

Continuing his astonishingly breakneck pace of top-shelf releases in 2017, SLYNK is already back at your speakers. “With The Funk” is an old-school hip-hop banger, dripping with that deep Ghetto Funk bottom end.

After a couple of harder electronic tracks, Slynk gets right back to the funky basics on the track.
