My personal intention with this song was to give listeners the feeling of being in limbo, like you're trapped at the bottom of the ocean, with this desperate, yet euphoric, energy.  Alexander is an idealized, romanticized "Prince Charming" who disappears and reappears, giving you a dopamine rush with the little attention you receive from him and then a crash as he retreats. You are the prisoner of his affections from which there is "no escape."  As the song comes to an end, you chant 'Alexander' from an underwater cave, as you await his return.
