Two years in the making, I Cannot Tell You Where I am Until I Love You is the first release on Alrealon by Anthony Donovan. Combining spoken word with scenes culled from an involved admix of musique concrete, electro-acoustic and industrial, the album takes the listener through a complex series of dissociated communications, where attempts at congress and connection are stymied by language itself, with all signs failing to signify. An alienated love story of sorts is voiced by protagonists Bryan Lewis Saunders, Michael Holloway, Pixyblink, Jaan Patterson and Jo Pearson; each being asked, during the initial creative process, to perform their characterisations in isolation, with no inkling of the final project. In similar fashion, Donovan invited improvisers like Stephen Flinn, Antonio de Braga, Zafer Aracagok and Adrian Beentjes to react to certain concepts, instructions and suggestions. The results of these experiments were added to Donovan's own material, and worked into a single album-length, thematic composition. Donovan is an artist, musician, composer, improviser and writer based in England. He works solo, either as Murmurists or under his own name, and is associated with projects such as Destroyevsky, Ou_pi Golgotha.undead, Ampersand, the.clinamen and Spidey Agutter. An ardent collaborator, he has worked with the likes of John Zorn, Jochen Arbeit, Geoff Leigh, PAS, Steve Beresford and Damo Suzuki. Donovan co-curates the respected labels Classwar Karaoke and suRRism-Phonoethics with Jaan Patterson. His interests are all either obscure or opaque, but morally authentic.

They Came from Hell is an audio production company, focused on the creation of sample libraries, virtual instruments and custom licensed music.
Inspired by a shared love of all things horror and sci-fi, Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore have now teamed up to create the sounds of the horrific, the supernatural, the nightmarish, the dreadful and the ghostly.
Their first release is the sample library, ‘Symphysiotomy’. Created from the sound of a real (analog) chainsaw in action. Symphysiotomy features more than 60 samples categorized into Pulses and Rhythms, FX and One Shots, and Drones and Textures. By processing the raw chainsaw samples through a myriad of FX pedals, hardware FX units and various digital FX plugins, Symphysiotomy is truly a one of a kind sample library. All samples are royalty free and ready for use in your next trailer, video game score or tv/film score.

Obstructed is the latest EP from They Came from Hell, composers/sound-designers Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore. The EP marks the final chapter of releases built around their ‘Symphysiotomy’ sample library. They have previously released two EP’s ‘Osteotome’ and ‘Obstetrics’. The two-track release features one track from each of the composers. Chris Gilmore’s track, ‘The Fruit for The Tree’ is a dark orchestral affair. A simple piano melody is framed by an ominous and foreboding soundscape. As the track develops more and more industrial elements are added along with harsh strings and dark brass. Philippe Gerber’s track, ‘The Barbarian’ sees him utilize what appears to be a heavily processed choir to great effect. The “choir” sets you up for a track that ultimately goes far and away from those opening “voices''. After that moment of light, Gerber then drags that choir straight to the depths of hell, from which they will never be seen or heard from again.

Chris Gilmore - The Fruit For The Tree

At Home With Monsters is the latest soundtrack from the composing/sound-design duo of Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore; collectively known as They Came From Hell. The soundtrack ‘At Home With Monsters’ is the score to an imaginary horror movie. Opening with the first of two pieces by Chris Gilmore, ‘The Caretaker’ is a slowly unfolding composition that introduces us to the residents of the home. Mournful strings set the mood and the piece’s slow burn adds to the very dark and horror inspired feel.  Next we meet ‘The Martyr’, the first of back to back Philippe Gerber’s pieces. Bringing forth what lurks in the shadows, it’s dark, and it’s creepy, never letting you feel at ease. Invulnerable, Philippe Gerber’s final piece, keeps the tension levels high with drums and dark synths building a foreboding atmosphere. Finally we meet ‘Tragedy’, Chris Gilmore’s relentless piece that finishes the soundtrack with a decidedly dark and epic orchestral flourish.

Philippe Gerber - The Martyr

Philippe Gerber has been behind various musical projects for more than two decades, from bands like Heat From A DeadStar to different collaborations with various renowned artists, however, it is worth mentioning Gerber's work under his alias JOHN 3:16, although we should also include his contributions as Dj Phys, a nickname under which he has released some releases over the past decade.

JOHN 3:16 is since 2008 his most prolific project and with which we remember the great album released in 2022 with Be The Hammer on Industrial Complexx. Philippe Gerber has once again signed a great album on the independent label Alrealon Musique under this alias.

The Pact brings together a total of 9 tracks in which the American producer shows an enormous aptitude for combining different sound concepts such as industrial, post-metal or darkwave. The result is a conceptual work, with an epic and heartbreaking story, in which gloomy, disturbing and disconcerting landscapes emerge. An album that is undoubtedly ideal to understand the musical legacy of JOHN 3:16.
