Description: In celebration of the upcoming DRE DAY Chicago 10 year anniversary, we dove into the Doctor's catalog, tapping into one his most recognizable songs. 'G-Thang' leans heavily on Leon Haywood's 70s slow burn classic 'I Wanna Do Something Freaky To You,' and we flipped it into a Moombah / Reggae / Breakbeat banger! Enjoy!

Based on one of my favorite songs from one of my favorite Funk groups. Kool & The Gang were a completely different group in the early 70s than they were in the 80s. A Horn heavy, breakbeat laden, Jazz Funk Soul outfit.  Their track "N.T." is probably the closest they came to a wandering, jam band type song, with the entire horn section getting a chance to breathe. With the kicker being the heavily sampled drum break that appears towards the song's end. Dilla flipped this break lovely on Q-Tip's "Breathe and Stop" and this remix cribs a bit from his version and peppers in a healthy dose of those boombastic K&G horns. Enjoy!

We've always debated reworking this track because it's such a revered golden era anthem, and we didn't want to ruin a classic! But in the usual Altered Tapes fashion, we've kept true to the original, especially it's bass line and massive drums. The end result is an uptempo breakbeat heater with shades of psychedelic and soul jazz. An instrumental version is also available, as well as a Drumapella DJ tool (if you purchase the whole MAXI SINGLE package).
