THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF SOUND AND COLOR

" Color and sound are not only the language by which one communicates with external life, but also the language by which one communicates with the inner life. One might ask how it is done. The answer is found in certain scientific experiments: special plates are made, and by speaking near such a plate, one makes marks upon it with sound and with vibration. And those marks make either harmonious forms or inharmonious forms. But every person from morning till night is making an invisible form in space by what he says. He is creating invisible vibrations around him and he is thereby producing an atmosphere. Somebody may come into the house and before he speaks you are tired of him, you wish to get rid of him. Before he has said or done anything you are finished with him, you would like him to go away. For he is creating in his atmosphere a sound and this sound is disagreeable. There may be another person with whom you feel sympathy, to whom you feel drawn, whose friendship you value, whose presence you long for. Harmony is continually created through him. That is a sound too.

If this be true, then it is not only the external signs, but also the inner condition which is audible and visible. Though not visible to the eyes and not audible to the ears, yet it is audible and visible to the soul. We say, 'I feel his vibrations, I feel this person's presence, I feel sympathy, or antipathy towards that person.' There is a feeling. And a person creates a feeling without having said anything or done anything. Therefore a person whose vibration is wrong, without doing or saying anything wrong, creates the wrong atmosphere. And you find fault with him. It is most amusing to see how people may come to you with a complaint: 'I have said nothing, I have done nothing, and yet people dislike me and are against me!' That person does not understand that it is not what he says or does. It is what one is which speaks louder than anything one says. It is being. It is life itself which has its tone, its color, its vibration. It speaks aloud.

	𝗞 𝗽𝗮𝗿 𝗞 (𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸) is the soundtrack to 𝗖𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲's contemporary circus show of the same name. Composed throughout the creation process on stage from 2020 to 2022, the soundtrack is perfectly synchronized with the acrobats' movements on stage, and forms an integral part of the artistic proposition.

	Delving into the theme of migration with gravity, this album offers a glimpse into the complexity of the issue. Between distress, violence, survival, hope and joyful memories, a wide range of emotions runs through these 8 tracks. 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮's poem opens the album, read by project collaborator 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗷𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘁. This is followed by excerpts from the rescues of 𝗦𝗢𝗦 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗲's Ocean Viking, whose stories were a great source of inspiration. Then begins an intense auditory journey, a crossing through the words of migrants, sea rescuers, politicians, writers... all wrapped up in intense, melodic, sometimes minimalist but resolutely powerful music.

	𝗖𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲's show 𝗞 𝗽𝗮𝗿 𝗞 is a cry of solidarity, a call for dialogue, opening the way to reflection on this dehumanization, and this original album is one of its voices.

Adil Smaali et Lakay, deux artistes aux parcours riches et variés, unissent leurs talents pour donner naissance à une musique qui rend hommage aux traditions tout en s’ouvrant à la modernité. Avec leur projet Elements Of Baraka, ils célèbrent la puissance spirituelle de la musique Gnawa et du rituel soufi de la hadra à travers un premier EP profondément ancré dans les racines marocaines. Ce voyage sonore acoustique, est une véritable ode aux valeurs spirituelles et aux sonorités mystiques de la hadra, enrichie par des touches subtiles de dub, de musique électronique et de rythmiques inspirées de la progressive trance. Ces influences modernes, savamment dosées, apportent une dynamique nouvelle, tout en respectant l’essence sacrée de cette tradition musicale.

Adil Smaali and Lakay, two artists with rich and varied backgrounds, have combined their talents to create music that pays tribute to tradition while embracing modernity. With their project Elements Of Baraka, they celebrate the spiritual power of Gnawa music and the Sufi ritual of hadra through a first EP deeply rooted in Moroccan roots. This acoustic journey is a veritable ode to the spiritual values and mystical sounds of the hadra, enriched by subtle touches of dub, electronic music and progressive trance-inspired rhythms. These modern influences, skilfully balanced, bring a new dynamic, while respecting the sacred essence of this musical tradition.

Pleamar (Spanish for high tide) is the first collaborative release between Chancha Vía Circuito and El Búho for Wonderwheel Recordings, and stands as one of the most refreshing EP’s within the Latin American downtempo electronic genre. 

On this release the vision of both artists is united as one. This unity is reflected through “Real Fun, Wow!”’s artwork, presenting an image of a centered eye, reminiscent of historic drawings from tide studies. The representation of Earth, with a central circle surrounded by two ellipsoids that rotate and align in perfect harmony, mirrors the meeting of the two producers, the moment when the seawater reaches its apex and Pleamar occurs. 

Like a metamorphosis that - without knowing it - we had been waiting a long time for, the EP reconstructs Pedro and Robin’s encounters over the years. It transports us into the history of migrant sounds, the salvaged sound of floral jungles, high mountain forests and the ocean deep. We hear a sonic beauty filled out by deep personal stories - four humble and honest tracks that demonstrate the fusion of these artists and both them and the genre into new territory. 

Starting with “Oruga”’s deep ambience, dub atmospheres and space echo reverberations, the album follows this line of reverberated rhythms and relaxed percussion lines throughout, carrying us along with a pulsating, deep, natural tempo. “El Mago Georges”, perhaps the Pleamar’s jewel, is bursting with life - impactful depth and perfectly tuned melodies yet tribal and delicate at the same time. “Murga del Viento'' recalls another meeting of these two minds: El Búho’s much-loved remix of “Sueño en Paraguay” a beautiful track from Chancha Vía Circuito (“Amansará” 2014). Here the whistle meets the owl from the previous track and the two birds take us a step forward in this collaboration with chords superimposed on a haunting bass. The release ends with “Una Pulgada de Silencio”, a track of cosmic synthesizers, trickling water samples and the voice of argentine folk singer Gus Goncalves. Through Pleamar we come to find a much needed peace and clarity hidden beneath the rolling waves, a deep-sound escape to get lost in.
