Any avid Rap Aficionado probably is familiar with D.I.T.C., the collective originated in The Bronx by mainstays Showbiz & AG, Lord Finesse & Diamond D and, along the way, incorporated fellow Bronx Bombers Fat Joe & the always reliable producer Buckwild, Brooklyn rhyme animal O.C. & the late, great, Harlem-born, Big L.

All of them delivered must-have albums throughout the 90's and towards the end of that decade combined forces to release a series of collectible 12-inches such as "Day One", "The Enemy", "All Love" & "Put It In Your System"

A full-length album was up next and by Feb. 2000 released on Tommy Boy records, but -although well-received-, somehow felt like it lacked focus, probably due to trials & tribulations such as Big L's tragic death a year before.

A vinyl release called "The Official Version" was released later in 2000 on Fat Beats records, but unfortunately omitted essential tracks too, making for a not totally satisfying listen, moreover not doin' truly justice to the incredibility of this crew.

What I tried to do here is assemble the great stuff from the aforementioned 12-inches, posse cuts from either solo albums or other artists' albums (such as "The Club" from Tony Toca's "The Piecemaker" album) and loosies from over those years, in an effort to create the quintessential D.I.T.C. album from that era, although I took the liberty to also add some dope, latter day, material, to round things up for the best of results.

D.I.T.C. always kept one foot firmly in the Boom Bap underground, Fat Joe probably is the most commercially viable exponent out of the whole crew, but do some research on any of its members and you'll find out they're involved in some of the biggest(-selling)albums in Rap, such as "The Score" (Fugees), "Ready To Die" (BIG), "The Documentary" (The Game), "Capital Punishment" (Pun), as well as singles by Black Rob ("Whoa!") KRS ("Sound Of Da Police"), amongst others.

O.C. probably said it best in "Time Travel" > "... Can't point fingers for the gift we was givin'...No neglectin' past mistakes, back to correct 'em."

D.I.T.C. - "Diggin' In The Crates"

The first remix from B. Bravo’s “Vizionz” LP is coming in hot by way of Stimulator Jones (Stone’s Throw), a masterful producer of laid-back funk, smooth R&B, & contemporary soul. Taking the last track on the album, “Believe,” the track is slowed down to a mellow, head nod jam, with Chuck Inglish’s (of The Cool Kids) rich baritone fitting right into the deep pocket of the trunk rattling bass and drum lines. The chopped up female vocal sample remains as the song’s chorus, but Stimulator Jones adds an extended vocoder outro from B.Bravo, turning “Believe” into a serious late-night cruiser. 

An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, producer, DJ, vocalist, and songwriter, Stimulator Jones has built a loyal following with his series of releases on LA’s Stones Throw Records, including “Round Spiritual Ring,” his new album released in July, 2022.

The “Layers EP” is the first Bastard Jazz release from Milan based producer Parker Madicine. A fanatic record collector and key player of the musical politics in the northern Italian City, Parker also runs his own fledgling label CT-HI and has released music on a variety of labels over the years under a number of aliases, including 20:20 Vision, Trapez, and Carl Craig’s Planet E imprint.

The Layers EP is a love letter to mid 1980’s dance music production with a modern ear towards Detroit and the Future Beat production scene happening worldwide now. “Mazimuth” is a a bouncy four to the floor bubbler with analog bass squelches, sharp synth pads and scattered drums. “Carnival Into Space” brings an electronic jazz fusion vibe into it’s deep boogie atmosphere, while “Song Of Life” sounds like an early Prefuse73 song lost in a world of analog modulation. Remixes come from Vancouver’s Mosaic, a hip-hop producer known recently for his work with Dudley Perkins and members of Wu-Tang, who gives “Mazimuth” a Dilla inspired swagger with deep, swirling synths and big bass, while prolific Australian producer Inkswel (BBE Records) takes “Carnival Into Space” into big 1980’s remix territory with his analog dub take on the song, sounding like a Chicken Lips banger that never was.
