Hendrix described how he came up with the idea of his most famous and beloved ballad “Little Wing” when he said, “Well, that was one song on there we did a lot of sound on. We put the guitar through the Leslie speaker of an organ, and it sounds like jelly bread. It’s based on a very, very simple American Indian style, very simple. I got the idea when we was in Monterey, and I just happened to be looking at everything around. So I figured that I take everything I see around and put it maybe in the form of a girl maybe, you know, and call it ‘Little Wing’, in other words, just fly away. Everybody really flying and they’re really in a nice mood, like the police and everybody was really great out there. So I just took all these things an put them in one very, very small little matchbox, you know, into a girl and then do it. It was very simple, you know. That’s one of the very few ones I like.”

Moments is a about musical moments. I´ve wanted to do this for awhile,  just sit down and let it flow where I´m at at that moment. However I had decided to wait till I had better equipment. Getting tired of midi and vsti piano playing, so this is hopefully a good change.

However I got this minirecorder and decided to just try it out, record it in the box of the grandpiano where I work,  and strangely I liked the result.  So yesterday I took one hour and just played as an experiment, with a video from my cellular (will be posted later today).  And this is the result,  first of the moments.

If you have the time I would like to hear what you think of the audio,  is it enough for you,, it´s not the best but it has character, and I do listen to the recording while I play so I tend to play on the sound.  The grandpiano is not tuned well so that adds a new dimension also.

If this is a good thing I´m planning on doing 10 - 15 of these and then release it,,,,  maybe on cd,,,,   and video of each piece played on youtube.  So shoot away, if you don´t like it then I´d like to hear that also......

In November

Having played the game Myst as a kid, the soundtrack by Robyn Miller left an indelible print on my musical character. I still listen to it today and feel a great sense of warm nostalgia.

I Hoped For The Best

A Closing Statement

DJ Hell is known for pulling together disparate corners of the music universe, digging through history to pave a way forward, and the latest Gigolo Records release is a shining case in point: Hell revisits new wave vaudevillian (and fellow Bavarian) Klaus Nomi, now getting awoken thirty years after his tragic premature death.

But the song goes back further than that. “Cold Song” was actually written by 17th century Baroque composer Henry Purcell and poet John Dryden for their opera King Arthur. Nomi recorded a version for his self-titled album from 1981—engineered by electro pioneer Man Parrish—and it was also the last piece he performed publicly during his lifetime.

The 2013 Remake adds a totally new dimension to the original, tailored unapologetically for the dancefloor with an Italo-disco edge. Augmented by crisp, icy arpeggiation to contrast Klaus Nomi's warm, glowing voice, “Cold Song” now offers a completely different type of intensity, more kinetic than sublime. On the flip side, the DJ Hell Remix re-envisions the piece as a house track, with African polyrhythms and synthetic bleeps dancing around Nomi's sky-high countertenor. Two interpretations that differ as drastically from one another as they do from the operatic original. Watch for the forthcoming remixes from Hrdvision and DJ QQ as well!
