It's Over Again

Yoshi & Chie are friends of mine from Osaka, Japan, where I lived for a year back in 2002-03. They now live here in Toronro, where I got to know them while busking together on the street, and jamming at my house with a few other friends. Here's a medley of music from that day:

Yoshi is an incredibly talented and super creative sitar player, sometimes playing with a violin bow, or with trippy electronic effects. He participated in a performance of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band full album re-enactment here in Toronto several years ago. Together with wife Chie, who plays didgeridoo, sings, and plays various percussion and electronic effects, they form the group Kaminari. Kaminari is a very popular act performing at various music festivals around Toronto, with shows now including dancing performances by their daughter.

This is a song from their early album Triangle, where I was honoured to be asked to play the drum (djembe) part - the only other artist on the album. 

Here's a video of a show they did a while ago to give you a sense of their stuff. I just like to plug them cause they're a super nice couple and a joy to play with.

Le temps de l’automne, le temps où tout détonne, le temps désormais se conjugue au passé
Le temps des tourmentes, le temps de ne plus prétendre,

Le temps de t’attendre, le temps de se comprendre, le temps d’apprendre, le temps dépassé, le temps des regrets, de tout donner!

It is the time of regrets, the time exceeded: that of giving everything, we must give up.

The time of silences, indifference, then evidence that gold turns dark
It is the month of "buts", the month of "buts", no more months of May... the month of love!

The time of autumn, the time when everything stands out, time is now combined with the past
The time of torments, the time to no longer pretend,
Time the time that runs and stops and then
Time, who goes, who goes, who goes, everything fades!

The time to wait, the time to understand each other, the time to learn, the time exceeded, the time of regrets, to give everything....

Échos d’ Automne (with DAN-DT)

It would be too much of a stretch to claim that this is a "cover" of the famous Herbie Hancock piece. But it is loosely based on the chords and the title theme :-) ... The main thing for me was improvising, so the backing is therefore only a raw construct !
With a bow to the master ! ... and the recommendation: listen to the original :-)
