I started the RnBass series back in 2012 as a tribute to my love of all things Alt R&B and Future Bass. After moving to another state and taking a hiatus from DJing, I booked a gig at a local cocktail lounge last year and decided to resurrect RnBass. Not only has it led to me rediscovering my love for the poppier side of music, but it also sent me deep into the bowels of kpop - a movement I was surprised to find myself obsessed with. But more on that another day...

The title of this mix is fuyu (trans. 'winter'), a season I experience half the year where I live. As a way of staying true to the raw RnBass energy which is half-planned, half-on-the-fly, I mixed this live in a one-take, left in mistakes and all. At its heart, RnBass is a style built around a vibe - one that is danceable, catchy, moody, and just a little bit sexy. To quote one of my favorite labels - "the feeling is the genre". You just have to listen to understand, but I hope you find yourself becoming a believer. Catch RnBass live every 3rd Thursday at Dogwood Cocktail Cabin in Bend, OR.
