Romance Relic - Graces Aligned, Slowly Overturned

The phrase "liminal in hospital turquoise and blood mask" arrived in my brain early one morning as a hypnagogic hallucination, inspiring me to dig through my dream journals and explore some of the more interesting entries -

Lucid dreams, vivid and visceral and textural.

Spacial and temporal inconsistencies, often considered normal in the context of dreams.

Ghosts from the past that continue to haunt, many years after their real counterparts have exited my life.

Feelings of loss and grief on scales I've never experienced in waking life.

After spending too long believing I didn't have the skillset to put these thoughts and feelings to music, it is done. Hopefully everything has been reflected and is felt.

This month, I&amp#39;m taking you on an exploration of the controversial and unloved genre that is black metal, but without playing any of it. For this thesis, I tried to identify the key emotions of this music, such as depression, violence, extreme sadness, resilience, folklore. I then located these emotions inside other tracks of other genres, and arranged them together to issue some kind of a blueprint for black metal. I&amp#39;m obviously talking the whole time. Enjoy !

@haana_lee is no stranger to the label, guesting on our NTS show back in 2023. We're very excited to share their special release titled 'The Closeness of Toxicity'.

The name is inspired by a chapter of Yasmine Ostendorf-Rodriguez's book "Let's become fungal!". The intention is to highlight impurity and the functionality of toxicity in relation to noise.

The Closeness of Toxicity uses analog sound design techniques to create dynamic yet penetrating drone, seeking to create grounding, meditative tranquillity out of deep, almost disturbing base of noise. This one hour piece was recorded in one take using a Korg CX3 and different effect pedals, with a focus on improvisation, stereo image, and the physical impact of sound.

The set is a snapshot of a year-long exploration of live improvised drone played on different electric organs while haana lee was touring Latin America and Europe, that they brought back to their hometown LA and their own drawbar organ.
