@Z_prods is a producer based in Rennes. His work is largely uncategorisable - or in its breadth defies categorisation, switching unannouncedly from hyperglitch to pulsating bass music to sound-collage in a manner that negates ensnaring him as resident in any such locale. It is the unwillingness to settle for any diagnosable placement that demonstrates not generic virtuosity but an omnivorous utilisation of various sonic worlds to generate a complex and original signature of electronic dread. This style can be traced through a number of self-released tracks, alongside remixes and releases on labels such as Geometric Corruption, Tripalium Corp and After Affects.

Z²’s mix combines an opening live sequence with an ensuing mix encompassing bounding trap infused with shattered breakcore, confrontational post-club and atmospheric climaxes into glitch. Throughout all this is the same pattern of achieved meaning rather than virtuosic taste. That for each new track deployed persists an ambience of feelable horror astride vertiginous élan. The words of this introduction degrade. The terms have missed things. You feel lost. Music that allows you the actual alarm and woozy hope of this is rarer than we realize.

Z² says of his show: ‘I approach composition as a mental current — a subterranean drift with no fixed destination. My music emerges from close attention to sounds that escape, resist, or open cracks in thought. Moving between intuition and imbalance, my pieces unfold through doubt, surges, and ruptures. Rather than filling the ear, I seek to displace it — mapping an ever-shifting inner landscape where each sound becomes an experiment, an emergence.’

co-founder of hyperglitch pioneers @glitch-dot-cool | @soup_lab is a producer based in Detroit. soup’s work has been coterminous with the development of hyperglitch, over a pair of EPs, live sets, and a number of singles and remixes, continually delineating and redrawing the possibilities of the genre. Across upwards of a decade of production, soup’s music has been persistently cutting-edge and persistent in its articulation of a sublimity readily available when computational tools become simultaneous with the shattered mouthing of experience.

One of the most beautiful things about soup’s Realist mix is its demarcation of hyperglitch as a glisteringly intertextual music. With glitch as a basis - and its tenets of emotive centrality and crystallisation via the systemic glitch - flickerings of all else become tinged with poetic importance. Touches of dubstep, future garage, caged tones reminiscent of French house. When glitch occurs it intimates alterity, some secretive crackling in perceived perfectibility. The fissure shoulders a humanity when it enters into cooperation with expression. The expression does not enter our world only as disruption, but a reformulation of the significance of what is broken apart and what is after broken. So when these other musics flicker, they do so not with nostalgia nor a parodic wink, but as composites of an overarching articulation of selfhood within the disrupt.

Many of these writings seem weekly to refer to potentialities, half-stoppered yet unstoppered voices - dubieties of hauntology and its unimaginative ahistoricity. soup’s mix is immediate. It does not disguise its urgency. Where it reappropriates, it colours with an exigency of feeling. It is heavenly straightaway and that itself is an adjuration to the radicality of beauty in the breakability of the at-hand.

sun_ma___ is based in the Ruhr area and part of the FLINTA DJ collective BitchesxWitches. Motivated by her passion for dance, she invites you on a sonic journey. A set that awakens a melancholic longing and creates emotions in dreamlike soundscapes. Light and shadow, noise and harmony, silence and movement are interwoven. A mosaic of leftfield electronic music, carried by hypnotic rhythms, glitchy surfaces, driving drums and pulsating bass lines. This podcast marks the 9th episode of our TNDB-podcast series. We are very happy to welcome one of the best artists of our time: Rebekah. With over more than 20 years of experience behind the decks and a discography that matches her experience, Rebekah has established herself as one of the leading exponents of techno globally.

Her early EP’s on labels like Naked Lunch, Smut Music, and Cult Figures didn’t go unnoticed. Even more recognition came her way with her remix of Matador’s “Blond Slackers”. This remix paved her way into an amazing relationship with Chris Liebing’s label CLR, where she debuted her “Cycles EP” in 2013. Her dark, strong and driven sound was met by a wider audience and they loved it. The ball kept rolling from there on. Rebekah released numerous tracks & EP’s on labels like CLR, her own Decoy Records, MORD, SOMA, Coincidence Records and her new imprint Elements. 

Rebekah has played at BASIS numerous times now and we’re happy to have hosted her only Dutch allnighter this year. She’s an amazing artist and even more amazing person. Enjoy this excerpt of her all night long set in BASIS and be prepared for a banging hour of this power woman.
