A nostalgic voice amidst minimalist RnB grooves; The Sophistocrats depict a poignant narration to today’s definition of romantic love, self-love and trust (The Permanent Rain Press).
Lovelorn grooves imbued with timeless themes of growth and finding balance. Together, their debut EP, was released on March 24th, 2018. Distilled hooks and open book lyricism that wreathe you in purposefully “with an emotion that is raw and transparent (Gray Owl Point)”. Their music promotes healthy relationships through communication of personal boundaries and expectations. Sophie sings with a longing in her voice while the band’s soulful grooves (including a few refreshing guitar solos) create a thoughtful, expansive tone (The Permanent Rain Press).
Since their inception in 2016, The Sophistocrats have built a dedicated local following that has enabled them to play the Sunshine Festival (Vernon, BC), MarketFest (Nelson, BC), the Sam Steele Days (Cranbrook, BC) and the Fisher Peak Winter Ale Series (Cranbrook, BC).
They’ve opened for touring indie bands like Dirty Mountain, Friends Of Foes, Living Hour, the Gabriel Palatchi Trio, FKB, Giant Water Bug, Steph MacPherson, Charlie Jacobson and The Racket.
Their music has gotten radio play on This Great White North, 97.1 KOOP Radio (Austin, TX) and WYNR New York Radio and their song Nothing Left was a semi-finalist in the Music City Songstar Challenge.
The Sophistocrats create music inspired by shared experiences. “There is so much incredible music out there, but when I get to know the artist personally, it makes their music resonate with me on a deeper level” (Sophie, Canadian Beat Interview).

Songwriting duo Crooked House is James Villa (Portland, Oregon) and Julia Cromarty (London, Ontario). Featuring haunting vocals, and bittersweet acoustic arrangements, Crooked House displays emotional maturity, and a deep sense of longing in their heartfelt music.
