Psychosomatic Cartography

Back at the controls is HD artist Patchen Preston with a peek at his long-anticipated album “Southwest Passage”, releasing later this year. Patchen is resident sound designer and longtime contributor to the HD catalog since the release of Pale Blue Dot in 2007. Patchen has been in the lab creating his next full-length project; a melodically complex and synthetically inspiring collection called “Southwest Passage”. A key single from this project is Night Skies, a lovely serenade to stargazing. To help celebrate the single HD boss PointBender, resident space traveler KiloWatts, and bright and budding star 1981US join to provide their unique take on the expansive night sky.

The original is a synth-driven slow burn that carefully tempers sound design with classic synth arpeggiation. Warm 8-bit melodies dance around the 4/4 construction carefully building momentum with periodic rises and reprises. PointBender ups the tempo and takes it deep with woody percussion, live bass licks, and mounting layers of atmosphere. KiloWatts breaks the beat and propels the piece into epic territories with light arpeggios broken up by processed bass tones. 1981US goes subterranean with tinges of urban tones and natural accents. A proper deep garage take on the original. Be on the lookout for more bites from the upcoming album as well as the full length available this fall.

Ocoeur (Franck Zaragoza) is a phenomenal French electronic and ambient artist who has released five gorgeous and critically acclaimed albums that merge unique sound design with emotive and potent atmosphere.  He's worked on a range of other musical explorations including game and film soundtracks and has shared festival stages with the like of Fennesz, Arovane, uZiq, and Kangding Ray (to name a few). This calming and haunting exclusive mix showcases Ocoeur's aesthetic perfectly and should be ideally listened to on nice headphones with eyes closed. Enjoy.

now then now then out to all you geezers who made to the soundcoud description. i have to say, i really hope you enjoy listening to this as much as i enjoyed making it. more than that though, as it was by far the most therapeutic music I have made in my life so far. this is EP is a tale of love lost and love found, yes thats right - its the story of my love of sparkling water. im sure youve all been told, theres plenty more fish in the sea. and this is certainly true when it comes to picking a bottle of refreshing water to drink, but then theres one that nothing compares to. anyway, u know what i mean

Chillits is an annual outdoor ambient music festival that takes place in the fall in the redwoods of Willits, California. I've never attended in person, but the DJs post their lovely musical sets online as MP3s and Torrents. This music keeps me calm all year, or tries anyway. I suggest starting with the sounds of DF Tram, but I'm biased. He's my favorite ambient DJ, spinning transgenre mixes inspired by and drawing from electronica, jazz, avant-garde classical, and the history of computer music.
