Driftdown Procedure follows the Dreone craft/AI humanoid system down through a distant planets atmosphere after calamity and engine failure. This is the beginning of Dreones long journey towards sentience... 

Dreone is a sort of metaphor/vessel for my late friends Jacob and John, my childhood best friends/brothers who both made the choice to end their lives prematurely and left this earth to journey into the stars. We were inseparable. For me, their spirit now lives on within the Dreone system, exploring deep space, learning the cosmos and re-gaining sentience which will include senses humans can only dream of. Several other friends in our circle left shortly after them and more continue to leave to this day. Their memories and lived experiences too, are uploaded to the machine so I don't feel so alone...

I Never Thought I'd Find Comfort In A Voice (2018 New Album)

As thrilled as I was to be invited to support American pianist Harold Budd in London in April 2018, for his first show there in 17 years, I was equally dispirited by the cancellation of the event suddenly last week.

In the absence of this live show then here's a version of a piece I intended to perform on the night itself as a little tribute to Budd, and for the audience. I hope you will enjoy it and imagine sitting in a Church in London, only the creaking of the wooden benches and occasional shoe shuffles and coughs as your only other sonic distraction.

It's a version of his tune Late October, originally heard on The Pearl (1984), in collaboration with Brian Eno and produced by Daniel Lanois.

Over the past year, a selection of artists have been digging through the depths of their creative pursuits, for material they either cannot finish, or else would like to see adapted. These same artists and more have delved into the resulting repertoire, and emerged with new, repurposed pieces.

Out of this births the first volume of the Sustain Series: a means for artists to make use of old sounds, hoping to bring forward music that might have otherwise not seen the light of day. Thanks to the input from a variety of fantastic musicians, old material can breathe new life, sometimes in more than one form.

Aboriginal music and culture are deeply entrenched in nature. The aborigine would go into the wild and listen intensely to animal sounds, not just voices but also the flapping of wings or the thump of feet on the ground. The Aborigine would also listen to the sounds of wind, thunder, trees creaking, and water running.

The essences of all these sounds were played with as much accuracy as possible within the droning sound of the didgeridoo. What are we talking about? It's all about Ambient music.

United Soundscapes Oriented to Nature (USON) is a new ambient specialized record label focused on that palpable essence between nature and sound. The work from various sound artists committed to environmental conservation, endangered wildlife and sustainability will be released via this hyper-conceptualized label which seeks to raise enriched awareness about this global challenge through meditative atmospheric ambient pieces.

USON’s first reference sets the way how label's will present all the releases; three artists, three tracks.

Opening USON01, we find Hilyard with a wild expansive piece which has being premiered now, it magically combines the folklore of the forest among a beautiful fall of emotions that makes us feel more human than ever. Marco Uson and Henrik Lauge aka Collapsed Textures on the second and third cuts, keep the momentum high with mind-blowing textured drones that conduct us by way of infinite sonic ecosystems. 

United Soundscapes Oriented to Nature creates that intimacy that only ambient music is capable of producing, in order to raise awareness about the enormous importance and responsibility that we as human beings have in terms of environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Hilyard is a multi genre music artist/sound designer with a heavy focus on creating immersive and often long form dronescapes. A bit of a nomad, Hilyard has lived in many places both rural and urban but now resides in the quiet fog soaked forests of Maine on a family homestead. He didn’t start out as an ambient artist; in fact he played in a few death metal/grind bands and started producing beats at an earlier age. His interest in ambient music stemmed from a need to escape a tragic reality where the deaths of close friends and family couldn’t be counted on both hands and feet. The meditative ambient genre was a natural evolution of both personal music taste and need. Music was always the healthy way out and a vehicle to move forward and possibly help others who may be dealing with harsh realities of their own.

Hilyard's story, style and sound are still being formed but his hazy and sometimes-melancholic drones tend to balance out darkness with bittersweet positivity. He utilizes his own found sound and field recordings along with an array of instruments and organic noisemakers to sculpt his ambient dream worlds. Much of his music tends to be minimalist which can also dive into cinematic ambient and a bit of modern classical. Although ambient environments are his main focus, Hilyard also intends to create within other genres such as post-metal, post-rock, and beat-based electronic music.
