The album “Ceiling Inferno.” Produced by Panagiotis Mina of Pyrgatory Studio, and based on the poetry collection “Marvelous Ceiling Inferno” by Christos Kyriakides, the album includes features by Maria Spivak, Veronica Georgiou, Tasos Lamnisos (x.ypno), and Anastasia Dolitsai (Uvglov). For its cover art, it uses documentation of Marina Xenofontos’ painting “Ceiling Inferno.” A film, also made by Xenofontos, doubles as the video-clip for the album’s first track.

Kyriakides’ collection of thirteen off-kilter poems recount his peace-making with death. The points of contact folded together in these poems are auditory, sensual, touch-felt, and intimate. Several of them trail an upbringing and coming of age set in the sidelines of sulen schools and strict parades. Transgressions abound in their verses, but are held tenderly enough to release them from their abjection. Placed on top of the collection, a silver figure of a mask sticks its tongue out: a three-way gesture of contempt, provocation, and conciliation; a calm anticipation of charon’s final obol.

Each of the album’s eight tracks takes its title directly from one of the book’s thirteen poems. Five of the tracks’ vocals reproduce the poem’s verses whole either lyricising them or obscuring them with the use of language games, techniques taken from concrete poetry, and improvisation. For the production, Mina collaborated with Cypriot musicians of differing disciplines, bringing together various styles of beatmaking and composition while also embedding his own influences from drone and noise. The album both calls back to and disperses the original, putting down Mina’s and his collaborators’ interpretations of what they read as latent in the book.

Xenofontos’ painting “Ceiling Inferno” has been hung and photographed. Its documentation is printed as the album’s cover art. Its setting: a castle ablaze, hammer, nails, ladder, and pair of heels without owner, sketch out the tone of the release. The scene can be seen as long forlorn, but also traces a recent evacuation—the intentions of an arsonist. For her film, also titled “Ceiling Inferno”, this scene is restaged and animated; the intensity of the blaze redoubled.

Veils Of Transformation 1972 - 1980 is a collection of the earliest works of Gregory Kramer, one of the 20th century masters of textural electronic music. This collection is available on CD and cassette with liner notes from Gregory Kramer and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, who first brought this fascinating work to the attention of Important Records.

Kramer developed a musical language focused on continuous transformation of timbre, yielding a continuity of attention. This musical language, formed of timbral change, is a compelling aesthetic in its own right and a source of meditative experience. The four works on this album share a deep sense of order derived not from organizing pitches or rhythms, but from the evolution of timbre itself.

Gregory Kramer (b. 1952) is a pioneering electronic composer, inventor, researcher, teacher and author. In 1975 he co-founded Electronic Musicmobile, a synthesizer ensemble later renamed Electronic Musicmobile, a series of synthesizer concerts in New York from which he formed the Electronic Art Ensemble, a highly regarded all electronic quartet. His work extended to developing synthesizers and related equipment. Kramer also co-founded the not-for-profit arts organization Harvestworks in New York City. He is recognized as the founding figure of the intensely cross-disciplinary field of data sonification. Since 1980, Kramer teaches Buddhist meditation.

The new Mytrip full-length album “Keeper” is a work of progress and growth, of pushing oneself out of comfort zones while managing to stay true to a carefully nurtured and developed aesthetic. A continuation of the sound hinted at in “Filament” (Amek, 2016) and Angel Simitchiev’s recent work with other projects, “Keeper” is a more rhythmic and loop-based work that explores and juxtaposes a plethora of atmospheres and moods, thus resulting in a sonically and emotionally complex and mature piece of music that manages to communicate its author’s singular vision.

The backbone of “Keeper” was originally written for a live performance at the Bulgarian National Radio in October 2018. Self-recorded with the intention to be preserved as a live album, most of the music retains the original structure, feeling, and intensity of this first performance but was further explored and expanded during recording sessions and selected live shows throughout the next year. Some ideas were dismissed while others were expanded on. As a result, “Keeper” has become a record that is polished and meticulous, while sounding and feeling utterly real, raw, and immediate.
