CROSSROADS: A New Musical, follows high school senior Ben as his struggles with mental health and growing up lead him back into the fantastical world of his favorite childhood video game. After getting sucked into the game, he must overcome the virtual manifestations of his own anxieties to return home, and with the help of a ragtag group of misfits he learns what it truly means to be a hero. In the second song of the show, Something Real, Ben expresses his desire for a real adventure, after being forced to admit how little he has accomplished in real life as he tries to write his college essay.

I wrote this song for a project where I picked a specific genre to write in and produce. The genre I chose was 1950s R&B. 

My main genre influences were "Ain't that a shame", "It's just a matter of time," "I'll wait for you," and "I got loaded." 

It's about wanting someone you love to stay with you through the good and the bad.

when i was younger, i was very hesitant to new things, including being able to overcome my fear of the ocean. no matter what, my family would always encourage to just 'jump right in', but the freezing temperatures of the water would always make me rethink my decision. i wanted to write a song that focused on that specific experience and here we are.

I wrote Finite while I was loosing someone I was very attached to but that I also knew was really bad for me. During this I started thinking about how every time I have lost someone or my heart has broken it has made me a better writer and it has inspired me in some dark and twisted way. I thought it would be kind of fun and cynical to write a love song about the impermanence of relationships. To me this song says, its powerful to loose someone who was always going to hurt you, there is no need to fear abandonment, and wether the relationship is good or bad it is kind of beautiful that everything and everyone is finite. Everything would be meaningless if it wasn't.

At the end of last semester I was saying bye to some band mates that were going home for the summer and we were talking about how we don't want to drift apart and we want to keep playing together. They worked really hard on my songs and we became really close so when we said bye I told them you cant escape me now. I realized that I say that phrase a lot and that it could make a cute love song. I wanted the theme of the song to be you cant escape me, and I cant escape you, because you cant escape the person you escape to.

i wrote this song because even though i am human, it doesn't always feel that way. sometimes it does—sometimes i feel so completely and utterly human that it rips me apart inside, but other times? it feels like i'm still a kid, playing dress up in my own skin. i'm sure that most people have felt this way, and if you have, i hope you enjoy <3
