Contrées sonores 005 : Pós-festa de Carnaval, Rio de Janeiro, 1973

In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove. With the 'Shikaago' mix series, @thomas-log DJ French Thomas & Ami 8 pay homage to the classic house sound, which emerged from the Windy City in the early 1980's. Repertoire old and new.

In this fourth outing, Ami 8 takes the mix series to the Ukrainian coastal city of Odessa. DJ French Thomas and I were supposed to mix this together, but at the last minute, he abandoned me for more pressing engagements in Mykonos. Not only did I have to show the two lovely ladies in the photo around, by myself (and put up with their fighting), I also had to mix this installment solo. Bugger! :) 

Enjoy the classic Chicago sound, which evolves into filthy melodic bigroom house, and resolves with dark driving afterhours prog, reminiscent of Bedrock Records and Global Underground!! Bonne écoute, les ami.e.s.

Après la partie de beach-volley à la Playa de San Juan, nous mangeâmes au port d'Alicante. Au resto, j'enfournais goulûment le poisson et la paella quand on me tapa sur l'épaule : « I'm so sorry, I don't mean to be forward, but our friend would like you to join us... » Elle avait une allure enivrante, et je perçus un léger accent scandinave. L'esprit vif, Thomas me regarda et répondit : « Sure, would be a pleasure. » Nous suivîmes les jambes galbées de l'étrangère jusqu'au box au fond du restaurant : elle nous présenta sa copine, une Norvégienne dont les yeux turquoise me coupèrent le souffle. La pièce de résistance, toutefois, fut notre mystérieux hôte, et là j'avalai ma langue – Eddie Barclay, en chair et en os. « Salut les gars... Ida, Karoline... Écoutez, mes chers, on fait une soirée à Saint-Tropez ce soir... Vous serez des nôtres », dit-il bon vivant. Qu'il ait reconnu Thomas du circuit professionnel de tennis ou moi de mes modiques campagnes mode – ça je l'ignore. Nous acquiesçâmes poliment.

Trois heures plus tard, le jet d'Eddie eut atterri, nous rejoignîmes le port et la soirée commença. Elle dura jusqu'à dix heures du matin. Un jour, j'en raconterai peut-être quelques bribes : pastis, rosé, disco, jazz, de nouveaux amis... et les Norvégiennes.
