The Mind is a Mirror.
It reflects what I see, what I say, and what I feel.

A mind once filled with anger, worry, anxiety, and restlessness — reflecting social injustice and uncertainty — can brighten in the touch of spring encountered on a walk.

I smile at the sight of fresh green leaves budding on branches,
And my heart lifts at the unexpected bloom of cherry blossoms behind the library.

“Unexpectedly in full bloom” — a completely surprising, unanticipated, and unlooked-for good thing.

What’s so special about flowers blooming in spring?
And yet, this unexpected “visual encounter” becomes an “emotional encounter.”

A brightened heart finds joy in noticing even more budding leaves.
I see an old woman trimming vegetables in a corner of the market,
And in her hands, I feel the love of my grandmother from childhood.

How different is that old woman from my late grandmother?

What effect do the words of worry, anxiety, and hatred I create have on my mind?
What effect do the beautiful sights of spring have on my mind?

I am living this moment, walking this street,
While far away, things that seem “more important” are happening.

The reason I can reflect peacefully right now
Is because those seemingly “more important” matters have moved forward
Not for personal gain, but for the well-being of the community.

My problems are not separate from the nation’s problems.
My problems are not separate from humanity’s problems.

Rigid, fixed thinking should be avoided.
But I believe it is worthwhile to maintain an open mind and pay attention to what’s around me.

How much I choose to get involved will be decided by “who I am in that moment.”

Truth does not lie in duality.
And so, the end of every question and answer will always remain open.

And I am not indifferent.

Today, my bicycle follows the river once more.
Flowers and grasses—unknown by name—line the river’s edge,
their quiet presence a soft celebration of the path.
Leaves sway in the breeze,
waving as if to beckon me forward,
welcoming my journey with gentle hands.
There is a beauty in things that do not boast—
a beauty beyond judgment.
The moment we seek a reason,
its light begins to fade.
It is a beauty that exists only in the now.
