Songs of Water's distinct and evocative sound blends instrumentation from across the globe in a uniquely American context. Layers of orchestral strings, percussion and woodwinds fuse with indigenous undercurrents and sparse vocals to create a raw, cinematic tapestry of sound.

International Bluegrass Association Board member, Craig Havighurst commented that Songs of Water carries “a modernist, composer’s intelligence” using “percussion with incredible taste and force.  Strings, dulcimer and a variety of surprising instruments make a rich and fascinating soundscape.”  

Upon hearing the band live in Washington D.C., NPR’s Bob Boilen commented that every musician in Songs of Water “were excellent at their craft”.

In 2013-14, the band toured nationally and internationally, including opening spots for world music greats, "Rusted Root" and Bluegrass legend, "Ricky Skaggs".  After returning from Australia, Songs of Water performed two official showcases at SXSW and was met with a standing ovation at Nashville's acclaimed "Music City Roots" variety showcase.  

The United Arts Council of Greensboro, North Carolina awarded the band an Artist Fellowship toward the completion of the highly anticipated 2015 release, "Stars & Dust".  

In 2012, Independent Music Reviewer Magazine named Songs of Water as its Independent Artist of the Year.

My name is Jamie Lidell and I'm gonna delve into the heady magic of creating music in a modern studio, probe the depths of production, get tech crazy with mixing tricks, studio skills and equipment. I'll be joined by fellow musicians, engineers and all-round audiophiles who kindly share their tips, stories and ingenious insight from the bizarre world of music production. I shall answer questions and seek knowledge from other music makers on a quest to discover how to make things sound RIGHT.
