Looking for help identifying a sound heard on hot nights (February to March) in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. To me it sounds like a baby bird going cheep… cheep…. The pause is about 3 times as long as the squeak. It seems to come from the garden beds not the trees or sky. 

Suggestions have been crickets, katydids, cicadas, frogs, birds. I was wondering if it could be common garden skinks? I see tons of those during the day. 

This recording also features a dog barking, and what I think are microbat sounds right on upper the limit of human hearing range.
