Marmoset's RECORD IN RED is full of apples and cherries. With this, their second full-length, Marmoset have released a near masterwork of pop pleasure. Indeed, the 13 songs on RECORD IN RED vary widely in style and sound, ranging from the Church-like acoustic stylings of "Golden Cloak" and "Torn Cup, Fly Up Above", the FAITH-era Cure tone of "Walking Thru The Lake", the moody pop melodies resembling Richard Davies' work with the Moles, the haunting confessional of "December 4th", the epic dementia of "Summertime Is Easy", to the Kim Deal inspired "Frendamine". Every song is decidedly different than the one before, but the album hangs together with a neurotic thread so fine that it's completely invisible to the gallery.

One can't help but wonder how much vocalist/songwriter/bassist Jorma Whittaker's childhood as son to "Whitey" Whittaker, Rush's official tour bus driver from 1976-94, had an effect on him and his skewed perspective of pop music. Of course there's almost no resemblance between Marmoset and the Canadian champions of stadium rock, but Jorma was the first teenager ever to hear Rush's "new wave" album SIGNALS, as Geddy played him the final mix on their tour bus when Jorma was just 12 years old. While the rest of the world's twelve year olds were listening to Air Supply and Olivia Newton-John in their parents' station wagon, Jorma was in the hotel pool on Neil Peart's shoulders making a scene or flipping through 8-tracks on the tour bus.

Ok, so anybody already familiar with Marmoset knows to expect something fresh & interesting. Having been compared to Syd Barrett, David Bowie, the Chills and the Go-Betweens, on RECORD IN RED Marmoset assert themselves to be among the finest purveyors of mood music for folks who like to burrow themselves in their room with a cat, a record and whatever may be lurking in their medicine cabinet. Whittaker, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Dave Jablonski, drummer Jason Cavan & producer/guitarist Lonpaul Ellrich have created their most realized and satisfying album to date -- which they prefer to be heard "loud and alone."

Four Parisians, who strike with the noisy pop spirit of contemporary U.S. music (from MGMT to Dum Dum Girls), and don't hide their mid-80s to mid-90s English influences, from Mary Chain to Stone Roses.

‘Breeezing!’ is the first single taken from their forthcoming album ‘Howls of Joy’.  Ample Play’s Tjinder Singh remembers, “I was in Paris during a heat wave - a friend took me to a little record shop in a small hilly street just North of Canal St Martin.   He asked the shop owner to play Beat Mark and I realized that I was listening to what England had lost the ability to create anymore, what’s more, it was a whole album of that stuff, an album of songs that immediately moves in with you.” 

Sean Bohrman from LA’s Burger Records ‘Breeezing! is the jam!’ and Josh Walker from Nashville’s legendary record shop Grimey’s: "I love ending the year with something like this to look forward to next year. I really can’t wait to get it in my hands."  Look forward to the hotly tipped album in mid February, but for now walk into the sun with ‘Breeezing!’

"We had been listening to 'Girl Like You' quite a bit late last year and naturally started to play the song at band practices. That lead to occasionally including it in our live set. The response was always really good so we recorded it one evening with our friend Ed. We probably had a few ideas of how we could make it our own, but in the end the original was just so good we kept it pretty similar.  It was sad to hear that Reg Presley passed away recently. The fact that people in their 20's living at the bottom of  the world are still thrashing his song proves how great it is."

Thunder Tracks is the moniker of 25 year-old Oklahoma native Jake Scott, who names the likes of Devendra Banhart, Neil Young and Vashti Bunyan as inspirations. Recurring themes throughout his bedroom-recorded songs include: “Ghosts, light, a glow, colour, wildlife, and personification...” 

Here is the story behind Graffitti in Jake's own words:

"Graffiti is a song about me haunting my girl, except that it's not creepy and sad but beautiful and weird. It's about how things wouldn't change much if were a ghost. I would still mess with her, go on adventures, and get into a little trouble. In the second half I sing her side of the story. She knows I'm still around, getting into shenanigans, and in the end we let each other know that we are still with each other."

Both compilations were released to international acclaim late last year in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Lenny Kaye’s original and iconic ‘60s garage/psych collection - "Nuggets : Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era".

"Nuggets : Antipodean Interpolations Of The First Psychedelic Era" features the cream of Australia’s garage and psych-influenced young bands, reinterpreting the material from the original compilation. Both Tjinder & Benedict are avid record collectors, who met when they both studied at Preston Polytechnic.  Tjinder became the Union Social Executive whilst Ben went to London to work in a vinyl record pressing plant.  As Cornershop took off and developed, so did the amount of Turbans they had to wear, and Ample Play Records is the culmination of all that work and experience, backed by freedom & enjoyment, with 'Music 10 Commandments'.
