An interpersonal relationship is ultimately a story of distance. In a lifelong dance of secrets, contemplation and self-absorption, only a rare moment of unity, a scarce connection punctures the solitude. Thus, even a story of love, friendship or family is always a striving towards understanding, a constant seeking of honesty amidst the untold, a faithful yearning for connection against all odds.

Dunya is the creative partnership between Georgian artist FH HF and Tunisian artist Anasisana. 'Pay It Forward', the result of a long-distance collaborative effort, is an 8-piece album fusing the differing techniques of the two creators. Translating into 'Life' from Arabic, Dunya invites the listener to a communion, a connection to the senses.

With snowmelt, a vast forgotten place has reemerged. Rumors started circulating amongst people in the city nearby, and a few decided to go. These pilgrims could access the place only by moonlight, down long dirt paths. Amongst the ruins of this partial town, they found a funhouse, tavern, and cathedral. One of the visitors later described them as three different structures. Another swore it was a single space. The only certainty was that the structures shared a bright, blue-green mold.

On "Waiting + Remixes", two compositions by Emily Berregaard bookend five remixes. Each artist redraws a map from Berregaard’s: the areas where glacial expanse meets the heat of touch. These documents are devout as they are erotic, mirror images of the prayerful originals. The two tracks by Berregaard—extended abstractions of voice and saxophone, with dashes of textural field recordings—sourced from the artist's archives—are treated differently by each interlocutor.

Wilted Woman adds rhythm, darkly carnivalesque. Florian T M Zeisig, a celestial scrim. Angelo Harmsworth’s interpretation sees the place as a factory for affect, while Glyn Maier provides an asynchronous almanac. Alie draws an absorbing series of loops, a lacy garland made of Berregaard’s dreamy cantos.

Evolution grows into the darndest things. Babies who had the ability to recognise a smile on their mother’s face had higher probability to connect with their progenitors on a motion level, resulting in a higher chance to stay alive. The hominids who recognised shapes of both predators and preys between the dense forests lived longer to pass their genes to futures generations.

However, evolution recons that it is better for certain faculties to be developed in excess, than in scarcity. Various perceptive phenomena came as side effects from that excess, which is the case of the Apophenia, the recognition of patterns in random data. Maintaining a motional link with particular notions could also offer evolutive advantage, in a pre-scientific method world. Still, when cognitive fallacies get collective acceptance, they tend to grow stronger and stronger without any room for reasoning. Indeed, it is easier to grasp or chase a familiar concept than acquire updated information that ravishes lifelong personal beliefs. Our only tools to fight this tendency is patience and early education. And so, this is not meant to be a harsh criticism on post-truth, but an explicative sound narrative containing a factual core for why said fallacies and cognitive phenomena are formed.

'Hedonistic Idols' is an album of six works by Volunteer Coroner, the avant-garde noise-and-ambient fusing project of artist and composer Preston Weippert. Through contrasts of harshness and fragility, the album explores truth in faith, and hope in decay.
