This Warm December, A Brushfire Holiday Vol. 3

I Can’t Go to Sleep (circa 1998)

When working on this song, I had the great privilege of co-writing with an incredibly talented Californian Singer-Songwriter by the name of Ashley Turi, who possesses not only a unique and insightful approach to writing, but also an incredibly intimate and enchanting vocal ability that really gave this song its character and made it something very special. As my first serious production, I am very proud of what has been achieved so far, and I can't wait to see what projects and collaborations the future holds. A great many thanks to anyone who takes the time to listen and share this experience with me.

on a raft in an ocean of boulders
we’re singing along to all the songs we wrote,

looking to the reflections of a dried up lake,
i end up staring right back at all of my mistakes
cause all the problems that kept me awake
were smaller than i thought they were

the boys were gonna come along for the ride,
but we were tired of waiting, said we’ll catch them on the other side
and we were driving away, and he was slipping away, 
right into the tide

these days i only seem to write
when it feels there’s just no end in sight
when the batteries die in the ceiling lights
