It is with a great sense of privilege that Analog Africa presents this holy grail of Angolan popular urban music. Produced by FADIANG (Fabrica de Discos Angolana) this LP, known by music aficionados as “Rebita 74”, is the 1st LP to be recorded and pressed on Angolan soil. 

Released in 1973, this album is in fact a compilation of tracks by Urbano de Castro, Os Kiezos and Jovens do Prenda, the best selling artists at that particular time, who were asked to compose four songs each,  exclusively for this project. 

The result is a masterpiece - one of the best LP recorded in Angola.

We sojourn once more outside South Africa to bring you one of the more significant recordings of Angola by Teta Lando, which was issued shortly after independence.

"1961 marks the year of the start of the struggle against colonial oppression. The people's desire for freedom spread through the countryside like bushfire. The grief and pain do not mean despair because the goal of independence was clear. This long play record launching CDA captures the chant and dress expression of an artist who is the voice of the people. The need to forget the harshness of the struggle and the joy of announcing victory is signalled. Teta Lando is devoted to the people, no-one better than he could sing Indepencencia." And from various sources on the web: Alberto Teta Lando (1948 – 2008) was born in Mbanza Congo, the capital city of Zaire Province in the north of the country. His music focused on Angolan identity, the country's civil war, the saudades (nostalgia, melancholy and longing) of Angolan exiles, as well as young love and family. He spoke and sung in both the Portuguese and Kikongo languages. Among his most well known songs were "Irmao ama teu irmao" ("Brother, Love Your Brother") and "Eu vou voltar" ("I Will Return"). He died in Paris, France, on 14 July 2008, after battling cancer. During the last several years of his life, he managed to re-unite a group of many Angolan musicians.

This is Bonga’s thirtieth album - his fifth on the Lusafrica label - featuring eleven faultless new songs reporting on the state of his native Angola where he is again living after a very long absence. Bonga is a sincere man with broad shoulders. 

In this song we learn  that Bonga has founded the “Bean International”, focused on the legumes that unify the Portuguese-speaking world: the black beans used in Brazil’s feijoada; makunde, the source of Angolan flour; the white beans that fill Cape Verdean catchupa; Portuguese cured beans; and so on. Betinho Feijo performs on guitar, Juvenio Cabral bass and Malauia percussion, while Bonga sings and plays the dikanza, a very long reco-reco rubbed with a stick. Flavoured with accordion and guitar, the sound is joyous as a Midsummer festival, sad as the lament of a South American exile - and uncompromising too.
