Next up on Balearic Ensemble is the first off two outings by Claptrap label boss Vanity Project, kicking of proceedings via a double-sider of synth-laden cosmic funk with luminaries Joe Morris and Romain FX on remix support. File under Italo / cosmic / balearic!
Smart midtempo cruiser ‘Multi Level Music’ sets the tone with a low-slung 303 roll, propelled along by congas and discrete piano house stabs, soaring leads and subtle vocoder charm. The ideal summer build-up track to orient the dance. Second track ‘Ponzi’ is an emotional 80s cruiser, going wide with shimmering pads and big 707 toms. An italo dream sequence evoking the golden age of the flamboyant discoteque, ready for deployment on your local dancefloor.
On the remix front Joe Morris sends out a sleek, shuffling version of Ponzi, bringing his maven drum work and trim low-end production for a deep space excursion into uncharted territories, and Fauve Records torchbearer Romain FX sends off the release with his version of Multilevel Music, playfully arranging sampled choral chops and octave keys to whirl and spin its way into a spiritual balearic crescendo.

"This 1984 single by Italo-disco duo Fokewulf 190 stands out from the crowd. Instead of the usual arpeggiated basslines of Italo-disco, it throws in a bubbly synth groove reminiscent of electrofunk. Layered on top are sharp synthesizer melodies with a new wave influence, atmospheric chords, a winding synth-saxophone, and energetic, heavily accented vocals. The singer, originally uncredited, was none other than future Italian synth-pop star Fred Ventura in his early days. Despite its unconventional elements, the track remains timeless. This quality makes it the perfect foundation for remixes by DJ Tin Tin and Flemming Dalum. Their approach is respectful, adding a touch of modern production without compromising the original's core sound. Interestingly, the remixes might even enhance the original. The stripped-down elegance and driving rhythm of the Fokewulf 190 version become even more striking when placed next to the updated soundscapes. This is a release that caters to both fans of classic Italo and those who enjoy modern interpretations of the genre."

Donna Summer covered "La Vie En Rose" in 1993 for the tribute album called Tribute to Edith Piaf or Edith Piaf Tribute, on which several contemporary stars recorded interpretations of some of Piaf's best known songs. Released on both vinyl and CD, the American release of the album and single contain a different mix of Summer's synth-driven performance than the French release. These releases are among the most sought after of Summer's collectables. I revamped this song and mean no disrespect to the original versions ,Enjoy !!
