Ani Phoebe is the Hong Kong based DJ and co-founder/director of Bad Times Disco (HK), an independent platform focused on digging traditions, diverse & eclectic music, community building, and the intersection of mutual aid and music. 


She has developed her unique style through researching and digging out eclectic styles of production by underknown artists from the 80s to the 2000s. One of Ani Phoebe’s areas of experience is the downtempo, cosmic disco, and synth pop realms, being a resident DJ of renowned underground music festival Cosmic Gathering (DE) and having performed at experimental stages on Nation of Gondwana (DE) and Atlas Electronic (MR). At the same time, her breadth also extends to heavy dancefloors and electronic clubs, performing sets that expand on 90s progressive house to 2000s eurodance, digging for rare versions of nostalgic numbers. Weaving through all her sets are emotional, often female vocals, and synthesized sounds in all of their diversity and power. A strong emerging DJ on a global scene, Ani Phoebe has recently toured Brazil, the US, and Europe in 2022.

So.... Nordic Music Export asked me to do a little mix or playlist.
After picking out almost 100 records and not knowing how to attack this(though I know some people would have enjoyed hearing Pekka Pohjola, Sigur Ros, Dungen, Buki Yamaz and Terje Rypdal shoehorned together)I decided to concentrate entirely on swedish exotica and mostly quite recent and uptempo stuff. This is not meant as a full overview or representation of what's going down just a few of my favourite things to come out of Sweden.

"Stella Z, a London-based selector and producer originally from China, is one of six artists chosen for the Future Proof artist programme by the legendary Rhythm Section label. Known for her captivating soundscapes, she artfully blends organic and object sounds with nature-inspired textures.

Stella first gained recognition with her debut LP, In The Woods, Will Be Late, released by Third Place Records in February 2023. The EP, which features effervescent sonic journeys inspired by her mountainous seaside hometown in
China, has received acclaim and support from industry heavyweights like Ben UFO, Alexis Le-Tan, Cosmo Vitelli, and Ciel, as well as from media outlets including The Vinyl Factory, Mixmag Asia, and Electronic Sound. Her downtempo remix of "Red Sun" for Echo Juliet released in May 2024 has
been spotlighted twice on BBC Radio 6 Music, further establishing her signature sound.

Beyond the studio, Stella has opened for esteemed artists such as Marcellus Pittman, Bolis Pupul, Sean Johnston, and Mogwaa. Her DJ sets span a wide range of genres, from slow pulse, psychedelic burners to tribal rhythms and industrial beats, all while uncovering hidden Asian dance gems."
