DC172 comes on behalf of Brazilian born Vinicius Honorio, a now London based producer and DJ who is making some serious in-roads amongst a new breed of techno artists. Having already released on labels such as Pig&Dan’s Elevate and dubspeeka’s Skeleton, the next natural step in his progression comes in the form of a release on Drumcode. 

‘Through The Darkness’ is a masterclass in darkened techno grooves, with each one of the four tracks managing to show off Honorio’s skill as a producer and just why he is firing on all cylinders. The release kicks off with ‘Walking Shadow’, a track that has been a key part of Adam Beyer’s sets at the tail end of 2016 and in to the new year. This tense, brooding affair has certainly garnered a lot of attention of late and it’s clear to see why. The title track ‘Through The Darkness’ is a much more of a stripped back cut, jam-packed with a haunting vocal hook, driving basslines and slick drums. This is one for the late night mischief makers. ‘Desolate’ is another hard-hitter, managing to perfectly balance that signature Honorio groove and pounding drums that adds depth to his productions. The release closes with the atmospheric ‘Out For Blood’, which is loaded with vintage rave stabs and weighty basslines – This one is meant to played in dark and sweaty rooms.

Canadian producer Atroxx drops a lethal four tracker on Analytic Trail Records this month. The ‘Trust Me’ EP has already picked up spins from the likes of Sam Paganini, Alan Fitzpatrick and Drumcode chief Adam Beyer, who is rinsing it regularly, including at the recent 20 years of Awakenings party. It’s a stellar step on from the monstrous ‘Boats & Hoes’ release, which caught our eyes and ears in 2016. You can check out the lead in full on When We Dip today. Premiere: Atroxx - Trust Me (Original Mix) [Analytic Trail]

Ramiro Lopez drops the electrifying follow up to his ‘Pretending’ EP from May this year. 

For almost a decade, Spain’s Ramiro Lopez has established himself as one his country’s leading proponents of techno, with strong releases across labels that include Suara, Intec, Octopus Recordings and Bedrock. He first debuted on Drumcode in 2016 with the rousing collaborative track ‘Clap Your Hands’ that ranked among one of the label’s standout tracks for the year. With one Drumcode release already under his belt in 2017 and a new label project Odd Recordings with fellow DC cohort Arjun Vagale recently launched, he’s enjoying another strong year.

His return to the label comes in the form of ‘Being Alone’, a powerful trio of cuts, all of which featured in Adam Beyer’s Awakenings Festival Day 1 performance. The title track is a multi-layered weapon, propelled by a dizzying vocal, swirling synth effects and pin-sharp percussion that build toward a smooth classy finish. ‘Dark Science’ is an effective stomper brought to life by a bell chime hookline and undulating synth melody ensuring its peak-time prowess. ‘Der Raum’ rounds out the EP, highlighted by Lopez’s deft drum work, proceeded by a driving, euphoric climax.

Korpus 9 welcome dubspeeka for more of his perfectly spaced out techno sounds, while Frankyeffe and Tom Hades remix to make for another vital package.

Opener Halloran is a surging track built on silky loops and mind melting synth lines. It‘s ci- nematic and evocative and will get the whole club under its spell. The Frankyeffe remix is darker and harder hitting, with siren like pulses and edgy pads all keeping you in a sense of unease as you march forwards. Tom Hades then strips things back to a hypnotic groove, with icy pads and rubbery drums enchanting you as it journeys on through space. Last of all, War Drum is a deep and mysterious cut with more house vibes dominating.

This is another fantastic EP from dubspeeka.

Techno DJ and producer Michael Klein has been consistently putting out solid work for years, a habit that has made other DJs – among them Richie Hawtin, Chris Liebing and Laurent Garnier – look to Klein’s releases as reliable fodder fit for a variety of moods at any given party. 

Born in Frankfurt and trained in classical piano as a child, Klein cut his clubbing teeth at the likes of Robert Johnson and Cocoon. He then moved to Berlin where he cultivated his dark and groovy sound, assisted by his studies in sound engineering, and earned a residency at the beloved, now-closed Stattbad. Klein is prolific but versatile, and these qualities come to the fore on his latest release, the Hoisin EP for Second State.

The title track, ‘Hoisin’, is a shapeshifter, switching gears from mesmeric, winding bass and rhythmic bleeps to minor, eerie builds, cheeky drum rolls, and more energizing chords. ‘Bite’ is more urgent, kicked along by impatient percussion and an acidic bass burble. ‘The Signal’ is the EP’s biggest moment, destined to be a highlight of not just Klein’s sets, but others’, too. It has the atmosphere of a ‘90s Bristolian rave, with a whomping stomp, beguiling bass and the odd vocal yelp adding era-specific authenticity. ‘Hollow Night’ demonstrates how deftly he can change moods. Here Klein retreats into something darker and more insular. A kick joined by circular chords creates a claustrophobic but compelling inner world. 

Klein is a highly valued member of the Second State family and recently contributed an excellent exclusive track for Amelie Lens’ fabric presents mix. He’s been something of a secret weapon in the techno community for years, but while his music prefers to live in the dark, Klein’s profile is, deservedly, coming into the light.

Who is ready for some wicked tunes? For our next release, we have brought the sizzling hot Finnish artist NIQW on board. His track “Cat Massage” is nothing short of a dirty gem packed with crispy and weird sounds. The bouncy groove combines acidy elements with an insanely crunchy kick and on point Hi-hats underlined by the vocal cut and swirling synth. The tune erupts in fury, this is not for the faint of heart. 

We were very excited to get a remix from our buddy Alec Troniq for this one, and boy oh boy did he bring in the big guns. His remix draws lines towards industrial influences, it is gritty, it is tight, and most and foremost, in true Troniq style it is catchy as hell with the knock over groove and toppling synths.

Keeping up the hint of quirkiness throughout the two tracks, the red thread of the release is first and foremost darkness, indecency and wildness. Enjoy this ride!
