Swedish boutique music label ICEA adopted the Positano natives to polish their dream-pop soundscapes. Listeners were introduced to Emmecosta’s music at the end of 2016 and the dawn of 2017 with the tracks “His Power of Youth” and “Miguel”. The synths, punctuated guitar and silky vocals evoke memories of Phoenix circa 2004. The remaining two tracks, “Heavy Heart” and “A Mountain From Us” blend pulsing waves of synths and echoing vocals, mirroring Snakadaktal’s Sleep in the Water (2013). 

In many ways, Emmecosta communicate intoxicating atmospheres with their dream-pop, reminiscent of Washed Out, where the muffled vocals paint the landscape and guide the listener to melt into nature. The music videos for “Miguel” and “His Power of Youth” were filmed in seaside Positano and Scandinavian forests, complementing the music and the story of the band. Emmecosta says, “There is a hidden romantic darkness in the actual story, which represents the band’s melancholy in relation to their hometown in Italy, and what it was been like to immigrate to Sweden. There is a craving for home, yet acceptance of new belonging.” 

Stereogum and Clash Magazine have both praised the band for their “blissed out electronics with a liquid feel” more accurately than their self-proclaimed “post-club tropical indie soul” - a description that raises eyebrows, but enhances a sense of self-awareness in the calming hours after a party, before bed.  Emmecosta dedicates their music ideas to time and place - living in the moment, while feeling split between their lives in Italy and Sweden. The result is a sound that feels comfortable and contemplative.   

"’Velour’ is the feeling of unshakable longing for a place we’ve never been. This is a specific form of wanderlust – a craving for a distant land or a deep feeling of ‘homesickness’ for a place we have never seen. We imagine distant places through small fragments: everyday life seen elsewhere. We are going through a strange sensation of disorientation, something magical seen from far away. Despite her last name, Anna St. Louis was born and raised in Kansas City. She grew up a painter and singing in punk bands, eventually leaving her hometown to attend art school in Philadelphia. After graduating she made the move to Los Angeles where she began teaching herself guitar, writing songs and recording them on her own in her bedroom. First Songs is the sound of someone discovering their talent in real time - a peak into the collage of a wonderful mind that is absorbing their new surroundings and using new tools to put them into the room. Listening to this collection you can feel the sun coming in through the window - Anna on the foot of the bed with a guitar on her knee, finding her voice. St. Louis wears her influences well - think Patsy Cline singing over John Fahey - but has a style all her own. And while you can take the artist out of the midwest, you can't take the midwest out of the artist - so let this be known; this is Midwestern music ran through a California filter. I believe Anna will have many more releases in her lifetime, but let it all begin here - First Songs.

Likely familiar to anyone who wears their heart on their cardigan, Laura K forms part of Fortuna Pop'sters Tigercats. In her spare time she also plays in Jean K, Ski Saigon, Mikey Collins as well as finding moments to work on her own material. 'Apologise' is the result of some of that spare time. Though it kicks off like a Casio keyboard demo, by the minute mark it has slowly built into a swelling pop song.

Of the track Laura says "the song is about being insecure and anxious in a relationship; having negative thought patterns - not knowing if problems are real or in your head...classic! It’s also about not being sorry for your feelings."

The single is out on Postcard and digital download from Monday 4th December. The artwork was created by David Zacharis of the Smittens.

Forging a fantastic fusion of modern electronic pop, Human Woman are the new signing on Hamburg’s hfn records. Originally hailing from Iceland, the band consists of Gisli Galdur  Thorgeirsson of prolific Icelandic band Trabant, and producer Jón Atli Helgason aka Sexy Lazer. Now after the launch of their debut single, ‘Delusional‘, with its sensual, indie-dance roots and pleasing 80s/90s undertones, we see the pair expand their vision of modern electronic pop with a feel-good, rich and edgy album spanning 11 glorious tracks.

From the opening song ‘Einn Eftir‘, Human Woman make clear that their entertaining sound palette will consist of cleverly treated vocals, guitars and bass, synths, electronic drums and plenty of atmosphere!

The complex compressed beats of ‘Delusional‘ drop early on, and it’s a real grower, carrying a superb modern sheen, yet gracefully nodding to 90s indie pop and 80s electronica, we go on to find treats like the driving ‘White Knight‘, with its catchy refrains and sparse bassine-led groove, or the curiously titled ‘DDDI‘, which takes the listener further into bubbling, reduced electronics, sprinkled with melodic beauty and a pumping, raw swagger.

It’s clear that the duo‘s influences spread far and wide, but to fit them in with new acts like Kasper Bjørke and Trentemøller, or indeed classic names like Depeche Mode or even Unkle wouldn‘t be too wide off the mark. We are talking experienced musicians, with catchy, timeless lyrics and melodies, wrapped up into a top-class, radio friendly production.

The rough edges of ‘Great Woman‘ contrast nicely with the smoother housey vibes of ‘Love Games‘, which could be a strong contender for the club DJs out there, dropping into a spine tingling dub-timed middle before its sing-along finale.

As the album closes, and the full extent of Human Woman‘s talents and promise becomes apparent, we find more experimental moments like ‘Lazer &amp; Magic‘, with its spaced out effects and retrospective, ambient house vibe, or the sci-fi futurism of ‘Sleepy‘, part dreamy synth pop, part epic shoegaze anthem. It’s really quite a shame that this end-opus actually comes to a halt, and will surely leave you grasping for more.

Human Woman is positive modern pop for the electronic-aware, inspiring listening for traveling, for friends, for lovers, for living!

I broke 14 bones in a motorbike accident - so yeah, everything is delayed - and everything is up in the air. 

Thinking the new album will be ready by end of the year ;) but I said that last year too, so who knows :)

Hello world!

I dig homegrown sounds and machines, and prefer alternative and experimental stuff. 

I started out with organizing raves in the Australian outback in 1994, and has since then had a lot of fun with that besides studies and work. 

My musical taste spans from live analog music of indie rock, reggae, dub-step, trip-hop, death metal, and free-form jazz, over and into heavily studio mastered and engineered experimental electronic music -  especially forest (a specific type of psytrance). 

From time to time I build my own synthesizers and fiddle around with chaining options in the studio - hopefully recognizable tracks will emerge soon ;-)

I am always looking for a jam session, so feel free to write me :)
