Orange County’s Bassgazm lives up to his name with “Outer Space,” a mid-tempo offering that calls to mind the frenzied “filth” dubstep that emerged in the early 2010’s. A contrast to the slow burn of traditional dubstep, “Outer Space” puts the emphasis on rapid bursts of grainy bass just like its filth predecessors from a decade ago. Following the drop the bursts rapidly change notes, creating a chaotic interplay that’s backed by dubstep-style drums, reloading gun samples, and pulses of alarm-sounding digital instrumentation. Featuring serene guest vocals by Sacred Snow on the intro, breakdown, and outro, “Outer Space” stays captivating from start to finish while giving a nod to longtime fans of bass music.
