This very first instance in the &FRIENDS MIX SERIES is by co-founder & resident Nice FM. This Amsterdam based DJ/producer lives up to his name and is guaranteed one of the nicest guys you'll meet. He's been producing and DJing for over 15 years now. His sound is not easily defined, but best described as worldly, rhythmic & funky, always with some warmth and soul in it.

In this mix, Nice FM dives into the funkier side of his sound, sharing personal favourites from his collection over the years. He really likes playing downtempo stuff to get you in the right groove. Starting with a more mellow BPM, the mix gradually sweeps you into a whirlwind of grooves and tempos.

Think of being at a beachside bar in Copacabana, the sun dipping beneath the horizon, while sipping on some double Fristi's on ice. Nice FM recorded this mix on Sunday morning in his living room to take you on a journey of pure bliss.

Expect the unexpected when it comes to the second episode of the &FRIENDS MIX SERIES by our beloved Friend Midi Waters. The idea that there is always an amazing song or artist he hasn't heard yet is what inspires him. Midi's story is one of unwavering passion for music. He started as a DJ at weddings and social events, all in the early '90s. He never stopped seeking out the tunes he loved on rare import 12"s in the era before CDs and tapes took over. His dedication to music led him to a double turntable setup and the incredible ability to mix vinyl seamlessly.

Midi Waters is known for his love of the uplifting energy and forward drive in broken beat music, which he masterfully blends with other bassy 130bpm elements. This all leads to a sonic experience that's both euphoric and dark at times, but always embodies the &FRIENDS vibe you know and love.

Fast forward to today, and Midi Waters' studio in Neukölln serves as the backdrop, where he's joined by his furry companion, Phil, surrounded by stacks of records that have stories to tell. This vinyl-only mix, all expertly mixed by hand on a pair of trusty 1200s and an old Vestax mixer, promises to transport you to new sonic horizons.

For the Amsterdam born & bred DJ OMIT music is an integral part of his life. Starting off as a drummer, rhythm, percussion and groove are things he learned at a very young age. As he grew older his love for electronic music grew stronger, resulting in a passion for House music. The last few years his taste seems to drift more and more into the sound of the 90s.

What makes those records feel so special, to him, is that they really express the spirit of that time. The excitement of something new, the sheer sense of euphoria, a musical and cultural revolution, you can really hear it in those records. That's why he decides to dedicate this mix to the 90s era, filled with some of his favourite records and new finds, from the late 80s till deep in the 90s. 

The mix starts off with one of his favourite interviews from VPRO's Onrust documentary on House music between '88 and '92. As we stand at the start of a musical revolution, KC the Funkaholic perfectly describes the way he still feel nowadays when he hears a record he knows he'll love for the first time. He cannot agree with him more that these records really knock you off your boots when you hear it pumping through a great sound system (or headphones). So put on some headphones or turn up your system and let DJ OMIT take you on a trip full of pure nostalgia.

As we near the year's end, the amazing Producer/DJ and our dear Friend Daidu makes sure we go out with a bang. For Daidu, hailing from our hometown, the journey began with drumming, his interest in different grooves and beats eventually lead him to producing and DJing. Each music genre's distinctive mixing style continues to fuel his passion to explore a playground of endless possibilities.

This eclectic mix embodies a fusion of old-school hip-hop, jazz, paired with Chicago and Detroit influences, unified by one core element: soul. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Q-Tip, Kendrick, Yussef Dayes, Kyle Hall, and DjRUM, Daidu crafts a sound that pushes our sound and exemplifies top-tier DJing.

As the sun rises, Daidu sets the vibe for this mix, going beyond the usual. He tries out funky mix timings, blending techno, enjoying the freedom to mess with time signatures. The mix builds up to an awesome trip, flipping between deep, heavy, and mind-bending sounds that suck you right in.

You might know her from our Vasco &FRIENDS party at the end of last year: Lysah is now back for the sixth episode of the &FRIENDS MIX SERIES. Lysah's DJ journey began in her student days, co-founding a DJ and producer association for students. She likes to listen and play music that releases something. Music with soul, let's say. She finds that a lot in disco and boogie music from the late 70s, 80s but also in 90s New York and Chicago House. What's important to her is that people get a smile on their faces when she is spinning her favourite tunes. 

That is exactly her starting point for this specially curated mix for &FRIENDS. She recorded it out of her new DJ and record collection room in her new house after she just moved. She felt inspired to pick some deeper, uplifting music, with a lot of soul. Anticipate glistening tunes, offering a musical embrace ideal during these colder and darker days. Let’s welcome another Friend into the mix! AIS De La Montagne lights up our eight release of the &FRIENDS MIX SERIES. Having sparked her DJ career during the pandemic, she organized her first gig in her dad’s backyard and hasn’t stopped since. Now, she’s a familiar face at renowned spots like NAR in Utrecht, and even big festivals like Elrow and Mysteryland.

She has been part of our community for a little while now, dancing and smiling everywhere she goes. With her sets she focuses on blending genres and heating up the dance floor with warm, percussive sounds. AIS finds inspiration in every corner, from Dekmantel to local legends at NAR and icons like Hunee.

This mix began as a chill vibe post-dinner on her friend's rotary mixer and smoothly transitioned to uplifting disco. She believes this mix really embodies her journey from relaxed to energized. We can't agree more. Get energized with us & tune in.

For this month we're honoured to welcome a new Friend to our series. Aram Mukanay, a DJ from our home town, truly adores the boogie vibes of the early 80s. With a deep love for funky basslines and afro synths, Aram’s set evolves into house records filled with vibrant percussion, soulful disco divas, and dreamy keys.

Having started DJing nine years ago at his student club, Aram's passion now sees him spinning at parties and clubs around town. He drwas inspiration from parties at Doka and from Mendel's Ciranda, among many. Recorded in his cozy living room in de Indische Buurt, this mix embodies the soulful sounds of summer, perfect for any boogie lover.

Just when we hop into August, DJ Sluterdijk would love to take you on a ride for this month's &FRIENDS MIX SERIES. Originally from Madrid and now based in Amsterdam, she’s a familiar face on the dancefloors. Trading the front row for the decks, she’s here to get your feet moving with big beats, electro sounds, and choppy twists.

Always a bouncy dancer by nature, DJ Sluterdijk used to thrive in the crowd, but once she discovered she could share that joy with others, she took to the decks. Known for her ravey, acid electro vibe, she’s recently been diving into the world of drum and bass. Inspired by the DnB legends Total Science, she’s created a mix that captures the fierce, satisfying magic of the genre.

Recorded in her living room with the hum of Nieuwmarkt in the background, this mix is a swervy road of jungly sounds and funky drum and bass. It’s a narrative full of personality, where each switch keeps you alert yet bouncing, pushing the &FRIENDS sound to new heights.

sad. (fka our very own Jazzy P) is known for their mastery of polyrhythms and gritty soundscapes. They have spent over a decade refining a style that challenges the norm. Starting with just one turntable and a second-hand mixer, sad. overcame early rhythmic struggles to develop a sound that is raw, experimental, and sometimes deliberately unsettling. But it's all in the spirit of fun—playing with a big grin, sad. aims to connect music lovers to sounds they didn’t even know they liked.

Blo͞o (Klubb99 founder) brings a different kind of energy - dynamic, unpredictable, and always ready to push the boundaries of genres. With nearly 20 years of digging experience, Blo͞o’s sets are layered and versatile, inspired by the diverse and vibrant scene at De School and beyond. Expect curveballs and an irresistible groove, as Blo͞o navigates through faster rhythms and unexpected shifts in vibe.

This mix was born from a relaxed, post-weekend hangout in Amsterdam, where the two Friends let the music flow naturally, building off each other’s energy in a spontaneous 1-for-1 track exchange. No preparation, no tracklist—just pure instinct. The result? An hour and a half of immersive sound that’s perfect for home listening, full of surprises and genuine moments of friendship.

Raised in a household of classical musicians, Hazuki’s deep relationship with music spans 14 years of playing violin, piano, and guitar before she turned to DJing. This blend of classical grounding and an interest in learning new instruments and discovering new music makes her mixes special.

Recorded on a perfect summer afternoon, with the sunbeams flowing into her room, this mix captures the feeling of a day transforming into a night of pure dancing fun. Hazuki explores sides of her music taste she does not always gets to showcase live - flawlessly merging house, breakbeat, electro, hip-hop, and eurodance in a way only she can. Her motto? We're back this new year with an exclusive mix from **mod**, a DJ whose deep connection to music has been part of her journey since day one. From daydreaming of playing for large crowds to actually stepping behind the decks eight years ago, mod has made her mark by crafting multi-genre sets that fuse house, techno, breaks and trance, and above all are always full of surprises.

Her DJ career began at friends' parties, eventually evolving into her own parties, often DnB events, where she honed her craft and developed her versatile, instinctual sound. For this mix, mod revisited her roots by digging through her “old music” list, finding tracks that sparked her love for DJing 8–9 years ago. The mix starts with nostalgic selections like Young Wolf – Kabuki (Spiritual Version), one of her first vinyl records, and builds into a seamless blend of old and new.

Recorded in her new apartment overlooking Amsterdam, this mix reflects her passion for music as a force that connects people and shapes emotions. The session is filled with hypnotic rhythms, uplifting energy, and a bunch of brilliant mashups to close things out.

We are all about boogie, funk, rare grooves and solid house. We work in the spirit of rave, meaning that we are community focused, non-commercial and passion driven while we aim to create a stage for local, emerging talent.
