Using the octratrack more as a synh.. letting it go wild. There is only ONE sample used in this track. THe rest is generated by re-sampling and internal feedback to loops, pickup machines. And pickup machines as sources to all flex machines.. eventually

a bEGINNING - the First: Part from chaos to order

Finally a looping sort of peice using the Octatrack. This is guitar into V-stack tweedy amp sim pedal into octatrack recorded directly on a Zoom r16 with no added effects.. Just Octatrack and guitar.. CRAZY FUN TO DO!!!!

A Max8 Patch generating grains on a Pi-tave (3.1515 as major interval rather than 1) so all tones are based on Pi. It is panned to five channels and mixed down in BiNaural so, please use head phones.

GrainPi

Everything on this recording originates from ONE small, small sample.. that sample is recorded to a pickup machine (looped) the that loop is sampled by a flex machine, and i slow down rate a lot.. but without changing pitch.. the i apply a lot of random LFO's to pitch, balance and a little bit less to len (in order to have slight variation om grain length) i record the playback of that track into a new pickup machine (length 12 steps, while the sending track is on a different step length in order o create randomness).. that pickup machine creates a rhythmic "grain cloud" that eventually creates the base rhythm, which also change when i adds to the loop... than an other track samples and replay PART of the loop and replays it on a flextrack with ordinary triggs.. it only samples 2 steps and on with a record trigg again on another number of steps that the loop so I again get some randomness.. Then all other tracks we hear sample parts of the recently mentioned flex track..
To make it interesting i frequently change patterns and also have a few other parts with only the to loops as common factors... one of them creates a feedback between the first pickup track and a flex track.. 
By this i mean that the pickup constantly samples the flex and the flex samples a few steps of the pickup which creates some interesting distortion..

BTW its 90 BPM, good to know if you wnat to borrow parts :-)

OctaModular

This is another track featuring the octatrack as more of a modular synth.. again a create a rhythm bu looping what comes from a flex track as short grains.. but what I have added since the last track is that the other loop, which starts by looping a sound played through a compfilter, the only sound that is a sample.. later that pickup machine (looper) listen to another track (3) that samples from that loop,.. this becomes that under water style sound that comes in at around 2.50.. then i mess around with changing patterns and parts a lot..

This time there are two loops (pickup machines) and for one of them two Flex machines replays the loop, one up and one down an octave. then there are some other flex track as weel

Using the pickup machines on Octatrack to create a evolving rhythmic loop.. 
Short desription of the Octatrack patch:
Flex 1:Grained ”voice” random on len and start and lfo on rate.. short hold , fader linked to hold. A rather random pattern with locks on balance so that it pans, get almost random in stereo.. a chaotic pattern. Sends to cue as well
Pickup machine sampling/looping flex 1 via cue, 3 step loop.. the multiple, add to loop and also replace.. loop gets to 12 steps.. the short grains add to a rhythm, then multiply, move fader, add to loop, maybe replace.. (use one2 so that double tap on left record button becomes replace) repeat until you like what you hear.. 
Flex 2: samples Pickup machine loop and has some comb and filter action connected to fader
Flex 3: same sample as 2 but a “melody”, similar fader action as 2
Flex 4: similar to 1 but different sample, drum beat, also 1 has tstr while 4 has pitch on rate.. similar deal with LFO’s and fader as 1 as well (this one appers as the pitched chaos stuff rather early
Flex 5 samples flex  4 as does 6.. just different pan, rate and pitch…


GrainRhythms

Using mainly maths and AD live tweaking to control, phonogene, ErbeVerb and EchoPhone.. as well as Rene , DPO, Moddemix... 
And maths is controlled by chance (Wggelbug) and me..
Idea, controling both tempo and timbre with Maths, timbre includes ErbeVerv. I do a lot of manual tweaking of Phonogene, Echophone and Erbeverb as well.. 
Also striving for an unpredictable but controlled chaos feel...

So just got Elemants and Clouds from Mutable Instrument, the patch on my Shared System is a grain synth thingie, Using AMths to create very short envelops which contains waves from the to oscillators of DPO, ModDemic as VCA executing the grains.. tempo controlled from Phonogene, inte Wuggelbug.. some randon into maths to create envolps, and envelops also triggered by tempo varied with Phonegene.. Rene is used to create pices to the DPO, only one of the OSC, that envlope is also effected by pitch, longer grain for lower notes on REne.. a lot of manoal tweaking of DPO pitches and Maths envelope paremeters to change the grains..
All is feed inte Clouds, who adds some crackling noise, triggers and pitch infp sent to elements that creates bell sounds, FM inte elements from DPO, manual tweaking to manipulate Elements from bell to noise.. 
So most of the granular noise is just streight shared System,,, this is just a beginning for me in an ettampt to use the modular for some granular compositions..

Two "lines" of sound, two midi in.. midi to both lines
Line one is basically a Make noise shared system, heavy use of PhoneGene and ErbeVerb.. 

the other line is Mutable Instruments "Elements" into "clouds" in spectral mode.. Midi channel one controls Elements and the other midi channel pitch of clouds.. 

So basically I "play" on the Gestrument while tweaking the patch

An improvisation with the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator as only oscillator, other modules are Maths (i tweak envelope manually a lot). Optomix, Erbeverb (also tweaked a lot) and Phonogene.. 
I think I got close to that free form 60´s synth sci-fi exploration sound..

My first short usage of tELHARMONIC.. through LxD, 4MS VCAM and then into Clouds.. want to make sure the tELHARMONIC can do stuff not connected to standard pitches and harmony,, H output is the mad organ sounds and P out is to LxD pinged so it makes short noises of sorts

P and H output of tELHARMONIC, into LXD, a strike for P and envelope.. cv to sound mekers generated from Wugglebug and Brainseed.. modulation . a lot of modules, some at audio rate.. Elemants into clouds.. al lot of wiggling.. mostly pitch and tempo put also mix of CLouds.. 4MS VCAM provides the stereo image.. and some more..

So again a sort of complex pad, using tleharmoning N and H out.. the elements into clouds, 4MS VCAM for stereo panning and a lot of lfo, envelope, Wuggle, patchin...

So again a "complex" patch.. two voices.. one is tELHARMONIC into LXd and 4MS VCAM, N and H outs.. the other is MI Elements in ominous mode into Clouds in Spectral mode.. the patch is not conforming to 12tone system so the tELHARMONIC chords has a nice alien jazz organist flavor.. Wugglebug and Brainseed supply semi randomness and changing sequences...

So a generative, "krell" , style patch .. agian... byt not with a twist.. Main module used is Make Moise DPO.. it goes manily into optomix and on to PhonoGene and phone gene goes to moddemix with some influence from Wogglebug.. 
TeleType is the controling module.. and mainly the strange sounds are from DPO where the channels are linked and the V/octave inputs on both channels are triggered be semi random voltages based on PI..
The overall sound is rather raw and industrial....

A Kauer goldfoil guitar through 4 MS DLD and Erbeverb, amp is a Custom Bu Cougar 4*el84 rock amp..
DLD is set to. almost randomly, reverse and hold and there by do loop windowing and creating random rhythmic effects. Intensity of signal controls size on ErbeVerb to create som really crazy sounds.. at times drowning out the direct guitar..

So this is "controlling" Denum with Mocante disturbed by Fourses into 4MS Dld disturbed by denum, Then into Poletrgeist, along with Mocante audio.. all is also disturbed by that Mr Grassi.. 
Vey much and experiment both in using the IFM stuff and also in using Poltergeist to move sound in space.. sort of...

All of the Ieaskul F. Mobenthey eurorack(expect mr Grassi) modules interconnected with each other in multiple ways, interacting with 4 MS DLD and the IFM modules controls panning from Koma Poltergiest..
The objective i had was to create and unpredictable interactive instrument by creative patching of the IFM modules, no control module or sequencer used, so the "melodies" that appear sort just appear.. i tweak all modules during these 10 minutes but since they are complexly interconnected the changes are gradual and in my opinion quire musical,.. i also currently very much into using panning as a voice in itself... using the fact the mos listen via headphones these days..

Ieaskul F. Mobenthey, DLD and Poltergeist

OK imagine a different planet, music is built on divisions of PI...this is the way fusion jazz sounds on that planet..
Main module is the amazing MakeNoise Mysteron into Erbeverb, the other sounds are mainly DPO and wugglebug making sounds inte the fxDx>MxDx.. then panned with Opoimix.. Some influences from Cold MAc as well as Wogglebug..

So this is a sort of Krell patch.. it is IFM Fources, denum and dunst.. into Verbos Bark Filter...then it is Elemements, into clouds into 4Ms DLD... Elements ALSO inte BArk Filter.. the envelopes of bark filter is controlin modulating Fourses, Elements, Duns, Denum  and, of course Clouds.. DLD has very short delays,, stutter sort of.. Also Bark filtered Elements and unfiltered elements into clouds.. all this stuff then into Koma Poltergeist, panned by Bark Filter envelopes.. that sort of IT.. Almost no manual tweaking or wiggling..

First playing around with ambisonics, ATK encoders and transformers, Harpex decoder to binaural.. So it is for mono files from modularm the mono files are actually a four channel mix that i mess around i Ambisonics transformers... :-)
Modules uses are IFM, 4 ms DLD, verbose bark filter, Just friends and the mentioned Koma Poltergeist.. this is not music more like abstract sound stuff..

So using MN Phonegene as a salute to Pierre Schaeffer and trying to get into Curtis Roads granular stuff..
Two beer bottles are the sound object, a short clip of these bottles is recorded to Make Noise Phonogene.. the audio out is multed to three outs.. 
1. Optomix for short LPG "grains", 
2. Moddemix for a short VCA with variable envelope supplied by maths influenced by Wugglebug
3. Direct to Verbos bark filter for mild filtering but mainly to extract envelopes.. 
All three to poltergeist.. DPO influenced by Wogglebug as LF contrillint Poltergeist pan, and a lot of ather CV controlling all parameters of Phonogene.. but also a lot of manual wiggling...

And this is a pure generative recording.. basoed around Phonogene, regording DPO, at time, and the "grians" are genereated with Optomix and in parallell with moddemix (feed by MAths) and then the grains go in two 4MS DLD, one to each channel... I have also patched clocks so that CV influence time on DLD and the clock out influence Wogglebug, and feeds DLD master clock.. so the time is a changing.. and the I use Verbos Barkfilter to generate CV that influence.. thing, and come Fourses is thrown in as well.... 
ANyway, the first time I'm satisfied with a genritive patch flr more the 2 minutes without tweaking.. :-)

BenjoMorph part 3

Some patch notes - controling some Eurorack modules with stereo field.. what i did was rout the audio output of Landscape FM stereo field through Verbos Bark  Filter(odd) and that way getting interesting CV to use with 4MS STS and Koma Poltergeist for quad panning.. also sending audio into Fourses and controlling Swoop as oscillator into the vark filter (even) and also routing adio into 4MS DLD for some delay effects, the STS also feeds Stereo field with audio. On the STS i have it in dual mono mode and the obvious sample is straight into Poltergeist the other voice sample (both standard samples) inte DLD and Stereo Field.. improvisation,... Reverb is added to the back pair of outputs in the mix from quad to stereo...

So just the IFM controler and Stereo field directly into 4 channels in the DAW (quad) but mixed so that the back channels have reverb and appear to be further away.. 
REALLY fun 100% live improvisation..

The patch is live recorded nothing added in mix.. prominent modules are 4ms STS,SMR and DLD. Morphagene is of course there.. the approach with morhpagene was to first automatically record VERY short slices then switching between them while recording current audio into them as well.. used SMR as well as Verbos barkfilter to generate CV, Batumi is another CV source... Random Source Serge DSG is also used, and some S&h to control SMS pitch and Morphagene speed. Grains from both STS and Morphagne.. DLD used to loop stuff.. Koma Poltergeist for 4 channel panning..

Used to a Guitar player that got into creative looping and moved on to modular synths and sound sculpting... now I am more of some sort of sound experimenter.
Main tool is Eurorack, but I use whatever toys that inspire..
My objective to music is to do something I find interesting and maybe good and to try to forge a personal and unique voice with my tools.. even if that is sort of impossible :-)
I also regard the road to that "voice" more important than the acutal goal.. i also invite you all to listen to me travling down that road..
So not all clips are meant to be "final products" they are more like a sound blogg of my development.. a develpment with unknown direction... as is all evolution
