Imagine yourself floating  in a clear blue pool in the middle of the desert. You can see the smog envelope the city in the distance. Perhaps you have a job waiting for you there you just hate. Maybe your lover has taken your heart and thrown it into the garbage disposal of your soul.  Or maybe its just that the city makes you feel lonely.  Whatever troubles await you they can be put on pause for the time being. 

As you float weightlessly you open your eyes to see all those you have known and loved dance around you. Their faces glow under a crimson red sun. You feel as if you have gone to a place  that only exists in the deepest reaches of your mind. This vision of tranquility and mystique comes to mind as I listen to John C. Densmore’s 2018 release of 6 singles. 

John Densmore  has been playing music and writing songs for over 20 years. He came into his own in the Pacific Northwest during the height of the grunge era.  Through out the length of his musical career he has played up and down the west coast opening for such  bands as the Screaming Trees and Frank Black and the Catholics.  After moving to Portland Oregon in 2005 John Joined his brother Sam Densmore as co-singer and songwriter in the band Silverhawk. The music john wrote and performed while playing in Silverhawk widely received radio play and one of his most popular songs Rock n Roll Heart  appeared on the Showtime show Shameless.  

Mr. Densmore's songs tell stories of lost nights in dimly lit bars, losing those you love, and the darker realms of humanity.  His story telling style is reminiscent of Leonard Cohen which John says is one of his major influences.  He sings these tales of dreams and nightmares over a euphony of perfectly choreographed instrumentation.   His music is a mix of psychedelic meets country rock with a little hint of 60s martini lounge music thrown in  for good measure. While it may be hard to  pin point the genre of John’s music; one  word comes to mind as I sit back and take it all in. That word is; hypnotic.  So tune into spotify or apple music and turn  your stereo up nice and high and drift away to another place with the trance like musings of John C. Densmore’s latest release.
