La dupla Mike Spirit & Asaga afila su lenguaje club en “Big Dada Smile”, un corte que condensa el ADN de Come Closer: groove inmediato, bajo elástico y una arquitectura rítmica que respira orgánica mientras empuja hacia el trance melódico. Las percusiones —bien esculpidas, en capas— se enredan con una línea principal luminosa que no recurre al tópico del “break épico”: aquí el clímax está en el vaivén hipnótico, en el detalle micro, en cómo cada elemento encuentra aire.

El track funciona como tarjeta de presentación de One Bro, el álbum debut de Come Closer en Magic Tribe Music, donde el dúo pule años de cabina y estudio en un sonido que flirtea con el afro-y latin-rhythm desde una estética mínima europea. “Big Dada Smile” es frontal en club, sí, pero suena vivo: hi-hats humanos, congas que sostienen el pulso y un bajo que camina sin prisa, perfecto para esa franja que separa la medianoche del primer rayo de festival.

Hay dramaturgia, pero sin artificio: un breakdown breve que abre la mezcla, una respuesta melódica tersa y un retorno firme del kick para volver a la pista con más oxígeno. Profundidad sin exceso de reverb, calidez sin caer en lo “tropical”, progresión sin pirotecnia. Si la tesis del proyecto es unir energía de directo con raíz club, “Big Dada Smile” la defiende con una sonrisa de fondo y los pies en la tierra.

For the debut release on my own new label IPSO with Kompakt Records, I wanted to try something different. The new label, IPSO is for me to invite a friend or a hero, - someone I admire musically to do a collaboration.
I’ve long been a fan of limiting myself in the studio. 
Sometimes working with less equipment brings out the best in you, so for the first release I figured it would be interesting to experiment with this. 
Inspired by the danish dogma films, I decided to make a rule. 
As I’m not one for overdoing things, the rule is very simple.
We are only allowed to use one instrument.
I reached out to my friend and all time hero Michael Mayer to do the first collab. 
Other than being co-founder of the mighty Kompakt records, and signing me in 2009, he is a genius in a dj Booth and a great producer. 
He has always been a great inspiration to me, so we agreed to start of my new Label with a bang. 
I set out the challenge, that Michael should choose the instrument. 
As I arrived in Cologne, Michael had chosen an old Yamaha Organ. Funny side note, is that it is actually Jörg Burgers organ. Jörg is actually quiet the legend himself, but that is another story. 
Michael and I spent 1 day in the studio, and we had a blast.

Adrian Shala and Adrian Schweizer, the Swiss duo recording and performing as Adriatique, sign the third Afterlife release of 2018, ‘Ray’. The two-track single follows their remix of Tale Of Us & Vaal’s ‘Monument’ in 2017, and marks the beginning of Adriatique’s own journey with Afterlife Recordings.

We first heard of ‘Ray’ in Tale Of Us’ sublime fabric 97 CD, where its soaring melody ended the mix on a euphoric high. It stands out as a scintillating dancefloor composition, whose lead synth line will no-doubt create many memorable dancefloor moments. ‘Voices From The Dawn’ takes a more subtle approach to the same thrilling effect. Driven by the rolling beats, it reveals itself sporadically in spirited surges of life.

These two tracks not only show the range of Adriatique’s production focus, but show them to be highly-accomplished whether making hypnotic, peak-time grooves or epic songs for the end of the night.
