Fish On Line is an audio installation created by Andreas Kahre and Darren Copeland, originally as a low-power FM 'narrowcast' at the Gabriola Island Ferry Dock, timed to coincide with the wait between sailings. Created from underwater recordings at various sites across Gabriola Island, the piece explores the various sonic environments around its beaches and bays. Some of the original recordings were used to create Fish on Air, a set of five sited radio installations commissioned by THE ELEMENTS—A festival of Nature in Performance, (Lulu Performing Arts, 2008), and . Andreas Kahre is an interdisciplinary artist, musician and sound designer whose work combines performance, audio art and text based work in a variety of configurations. 

Since the 1990s he has collaborated on more than a hundred performance projects with theatre, dance and music ensembles across Canada, and has presented work at festivals and exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the U.S.

The Sound Column Project is a commission by the Edmonton Arts Council for an installation at the Queen Elizabeth Public Pool, scheduled to open in May 2011. It is one of a number of collaborations with Toronto composer/sound artist Darren Copeland, which have included commissions for Deutschlandradio Kultur Berlin (The other night, underwater, 2008), Fish on Air for the Elements Festival on Gabriola Island (Lulu Performing Arts, 2007) and ISEA Ruhr 2010.

As an improvising musician and percussionist, Andreas has performed with numerous jazz, new music, and world music ensembles, including long associations with Gamelan Madu Sari and a number of improvising collectives in Vancouver. Andreas was a member of the New Orchestra Workshop for many years, co-founded the improvising ensemble Hextremities. He is especially interested in acoustic ecology and the interstices between found and organized sound, and in work that combines text, sound and modes of spatial performance, including contemporary paper theatre.
Commissions have included scores for gamelan, new music ensembles including Standing Wave and CBC and Deutschlandradio Kultur and audio art, and numerous projects as sound designer for theatre, dance, new media installations, and audio art projects, including UnderWater a commission with Darren Copeland for Deutschlandradio Kultur, Berlin, the audio art series Wireless Graffiti for Vancouver Co-operative Radio, and Silence Descends with the Western Front. As a sound designer he has worked with many Vancouver theatre and dance companies, as well as feature films and video projects with Electronic Arts.

From 1998 until 2009, Andreas was one of the director/curators of the Western Front in Vancouver and editor of FRONT Magazine. He has taught as sessional and adjunct faculty at the the Department of Theatre, Film and Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia and is currently artistic director of the Xenographic Society, an interdisciplinary performance collective in Vancouver, and founding director of the Gabriola Institute of Contemporary Art.
