Ending the year on a high having witnessed a plethora of musical highlights, Meanwhile has been a shining beacon for progressive house throughout 2021. Now, Australian, Mike Rish, becomes the latest debutant to showcase his talents on GMJ & Matter’s blossoming imprint with the 3-track “Beyond” EP.

From his home on Australia’s south-eastern coast, Mike Rish has witnessed an impressive rise to notoriety, courtesy of a clutch of high-profile releases on an exclusive set of blue-chip labels. Not wanting to flood the progressive house scene with a swathe of formulaic dance music, the Melbourne resident’s “selective output” is based on a carefully thought-out commitment to “keep people engaged, but also wanting more”. Thus, Rish’s work for the likes of Colorize, Serendeep and Juicebox Music, has seen the Australian carve out a sizeable niche for himself, further enhanced by March 2021’s 12-track “Interlinked” album for UGENIUS Music.

Opening his Meanwhile account with the “Beyond” title track, a chunky beat and cavernous bass groove sit tightly against off-beat hats and snare. Filtering into sonic range, an elegant arpeggio provides glorious melodic interplay as white-noise washes and meandering pads pulse gently across the near 10-minute piece. Full of spine-tingling atmosphere, additional melodic phrasing is introduced at the breakdown before extending into the third movement with ease, combined with a raft of effects and masterful touches.

A bouncing bass groove immediately finds “Mindgame” oozing with hypnotic force and low-end menace. Sat perfectly in between deep kick and ticking hats, a flowing melodic line ripples across proceedings as it rises and falls with filtered dynamism. Twisted vocal cuts and acetylene-edged synth effects pitch with glissando range adding to the aural collage in a track full of dark and mesmerising beauty.

Closing the EP, “Here For You” is characterised by an intricate percussive arrangement that introduces a subtle melodic backdrop. Effects and textured pads span the stereo stage in modulated glory as a pulsating lead melody enters the fray in the second movement. Building steadily before revealing itself fully in the stripped back breakdown, the second half blossoms in commanding fashion with a pulsating confluence of rhythm and melody. The result is a track that illustrates Mike Rish’s unique talent and technique.

A musical triptych full of innovation and sonic narrative, Mike Rish has gone above and “Beyond” with a glittering display of production prowess.

"Running Mavka" with Shannon Davin is a dancefloor progressive house number with a rolling bassline and solid groove. Blood Groove & Kikis Remix brings even more energy and drive to it. "Hyperquantum" with Bynomic conveys a deeper and smoother sound, while Ruben Karapetyan turns it into a melodic and hypnotic journey with his remix.'

Commencing transmissions for this initial broadcast, 'Meloram' manifests undulations that fluctuate over a dense low-end as aqueous melodic spheres levitate suspended, defying gravity, expanding and bloating before bursting into a most entrancing sequence. With every chord progression, a chemical reaction occurs, offsetting a euphoric sense of effervescence as we gravitate in unison with each melodic impulse for a rapturous breakdown that challenges the very laws of physics. More than a splendid sonic exercise in a pure progressive fashion, 'Meloram' is a statement of declaration from a label that veers into the future through the echos of the past.

Gripping from the onset, B-side 'Blue Sphere' treads ethereal waters with intensifying aplomb through each passing beat, unfurling in a firm, yet gentle manner as an interstellar sonic tapestry unravels before our very eyes in hypnotizing fashion. Serene, but powerful, 'Blue Sphere' is a mesmerizing contradiction that invites listeners on a supersonic highway that stimulates the senses with its gliding frame and ever-chameleonic synthwork as we bask in its immense beauty.

Spencer Brown and Ezequiel Arias collaborate for the first time on 'Mad Rush'. 

The US artist has made big strides in recent years. A Duke University graduate, he got his big break touring with Acivii and Above & Beyond while still a student. Since then, he's releases for Anjunadeep, LNOE and more and continued to tour the world taking in major festivals such as Tomorrowland, EDC and Creamfields and headlining clubs as far-flung as India, Brazil and Australia. 

Fellow future hero, Ezequiel Arias has graced the label a number of times, his panoramic soundscapes and creative beats finding their home in DJs playlists the world over. A prolific producer, he has releases covering many big imprints including Replug, Anjunadeep, and ICONYC to name but a few. 

'Mad Rush' begins hypnotically. Plucky polyrhythms plunder the senses as percussive power surrounds. Growing organically to a place of euphoria, piano chords rain out amid showers of reverbed white noise signalling the whole rooms united desire to touch the stars. 'Slow Burn does exactly what it says. Starting ambiantly, percussive layers grow the energy over the opening section. With the bass comes new plateaus and stylish sonic sublayers that fill out the melodics. Reaching critical mass by the main break, orchestral pads create a calm before all hell breaks loose in the second half. Absolute progressive mastery.

The latest release from Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP welcomes Matt Oliver to the label for his debut EP. On the strength of early tracks such as 2021’s ‘Spirit’ and ‘Missing’, the Brazilian artist quickly caught the interest of progressive music fans. Having success marrying the nostalgic grooves of the genre with emotional melodies and club-effective rhythms, Matt became a newcomer to watch. The next two calendar years would see Matt continue to perfect his craft, and in turn land standout projects via long-standing imprints such as BCSA, Mango Alley, The Purr and Transensations. Now, as one Brazil’s top progressive house prospects, Matt adds RKP to his resume with ‘Collison’, alongside remixes from The Wash and Anton MAKe.

The release concludes with Anton MAKe also making his label debut with the second and final interpretation of ‘Collision’. Russian artist Anton MAKe crafts music that is both groovy and musical, often incorporating vocal elements to create a different level of depth and space. First emerging nearly a decade ago, the Kazan resident would rise into one of progressive music’s top tier artists with releases via Juicebox Music, Mango Alley, Proton Music, Replug, WARPP and most recently Analog Jungs Constellation imprint. Now, as a longtime favourite of Cid Inc, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, Anton debuts on RKP with a groovy take on ‘Collision’. Mysterious and thought-provoking throughout, it's a heady amalgamation of sound which makes for a club-effective yet uniquely rhythmic journey, elegantly flowing through uplifting melodic clusters and hopeful overlays, before a set of fuzzed-out chord stabs highlights an immersive break, perfectly setting up a thumping finale to close the release out on a groovy note.

PREMIERE: Matt Oliver - Collision (Anton Make Remix) [RKP]

Andrés Moris is a DJ / Producer from the province of Córdoba. He started his career at the age of 16 as a DJ, setting up his base and identity in electronic music. After several years of playing music, he shared the booth with greats from the local scene, such as Marcelo Vasami, Antrim, Berni Turletti, Matias Chilano, Jime Ferreyra, Sebastian Sellares, among others. Having the majority of Main dates, he wanted to delve further into the world of electronics and take his first steps as a self-taught producer. Today he has releases on labels such as, Meanwhile, Sudbeat, OrTwoStrangers, Mango Alley, Movement Recordings, and still there's more to come.

Inspired since he was little by music in general, his sound goes from a progressive with vibes of joy to a range of genres on the mixes, going through all of them and appreciating the music of each one. At 25 years old, he is already on the way to continue doing it all his life inspired by his national and international references. Taking Guy J as the main reference, inspiration never ceases to be present.
