Departures is such an appropriate title for this EP, as not only is this a departure from what many have come to expect from André but also these songs really take you on a journey that is a departure from your daily concerns. 

When I was asked to do a painting for the cover, I wanted to capture the idea that the song has always been playing & always will be playing, and we just happen to be catching a small sliver of it. I hope when viewing the art that it takes you closer to the music, not further away.

The songs are a mix of sonic bliss & melancholy, with very memorable melodies. 

Don’t be surprised if “Departures” brings you right back to your center.

A lo largo de estos últimos años, Dubby ha adquirido un notable reconocimiento en tierras nacionales e internacionales tanto en sus producciones como en sus dj sets, pues es responsable del sonido Deep Explorer desde 2004 junto a su hermano Above Smoke, sello orientado al deep house con base en Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid). Si buscas a Dubbyman por la red podrás comprobar que en sus sesiones le da a todos los palos y, además, con esa delicadeza que le caracteriza en la mezcla.

Para este primer episodio de los viajes de Surco, el madrileño nos muestra la escena Broken beat en la primera década de los 2000, un estilo proveniente de la zona oeste de Londres y que representaba, en su versión vocal, un gran porcentaje de lo que podría llamarse “el new soul de aquella época”.
