Monomood was born in the mid-80s in a small village near Dresden. But for more than 20 years, Berlin has been his hometown. As an artist, he is difficult to categorize. What is it? Techno? House? Drum and bass? Or maybe dubstep? How about a quantum of funk or ambient? Well, actually it's always a bit of everything - but always new and fresh. It's hard to find a leitmotif, and yet there is one: quality. Having started with techno in the late '90s and lingering on the drum and bass station for a while, it's fair to say that Monomood now operates in two different yet familiar directions : on the one hand, the vast cosmos of dubby, delay-driven sounds; on the other, heavy bass drums and energetic dancefloor movers. Hence, his catalog features releases at Etui Records, Infinè, Fachwerk and many more.

He has enjoyed residencies at Salon zur wilden Renate and Watergate, played venues like Sisyphos, Hoppetosse and Kater Blau. He shared his understanding of electronic music on labels such as Black Sea Side Music, Lauter.Records or As Usual in over 13 active years. Additionally, he was essential for the birth of Station Endlos in his hometown Halle, where he created a place to get lost in. CVO’s well formed and outstanding sound has carefully developed over the last years. Running the vinyl only label Bladehouse, whose Unknown Artist philosophy allows them to focus on the music rather than the artist themselves

This week's Resident Advisor Exchange was recorded in January, live from Southbank Centre in London. Shortly before their Royal Festival Hall performance with The Outlook Orchestra, drum & bass and jungle originators Fabio & Grooverider sat down with Heléna Star to talk about the show. As you can hear from the applause and roars of laughter throughout the recording, the audience was besotted.
The UK dance music scene would look very different without Fabio & Grooverider's contributions over the last few decades. Coming from pirate radio, where they first teamed up in 1987 on Phase One, the duo would go on to carve out the path for drum & bass and jungle, as well as to influence the trajectories of house, techno and breakbeat. Grooverider captures their legacy best when he says: "We are this music."
Launched in 2017, The Outlook Orchestra has collaborated with other pioneering artists like David Rodigan and Mala. The show with Fabio & Grooverider, which they will perform again at Outlook Festival in June, saw 30 years of drum & bass history packed into 31 tracks.
In conversation with Heléna Star, Fabio & Grooverider discussed how the show came together, as well as their staying power in the scene, the legacy of their seminal club night Rage, how drum & bass is still growing and how humour is a vital part of their relationship. Fittingly, they also cracked a lot of jokes.

There are many DJ's DJ's out there, but for me personally off the top of my head - Derrick May, Steffi, Jeff Mills, XDB, DVS1, Donato Dozzy to name a few...

4) Tell us all about your next up-coming release? 

My next release will be on Supercinema Records - release 002 - 3 solo tracks & one remix from my good friend Patrick Russell.  It will come out in December this year.

5) What has been the stand out track that you’ve playing this month? 

I've been digging the track "Questions" by Private Press on Indigo Area.
