One Night

Look what's become of me

This one is an American novelty blues song originally found in vaudeville performances from the early 20th century. The earliest known version published was from 1915 by Totts Davis and Ed Stafford titled ”He's In The Jailhouse Now”. 
In 1924, Whistler's Jug Band from Louisville, Kentucky, recorded it under the title "Jail House Blues,", in fact it was the same song.
Two African-American bluesmen also recorded the song prior to Rodgers: Blind Blake in 1927 (in pic) and Jim Jackson in 1928. Jackson also copyrighted the song before Rodgers. Finally the Memphis Sheiks (a pseudonym for the Memphis Jug Band) recorded it in 1930. On some of the Memphis Sheiks' records, an African-American vaudeville performer named Bert Murphy is given credit for writing the song.
It later became associated with Jimmie Rodgers, by way of the yodeling country music versions he recorded in 1928 and 1930, and has been extensively covered in the subsequent years, often giving songwriting credit to Rodgers.
In my rendition of the first vaudeville version, I sing and play guitar and also tenor and plectrum banjo.

No Suno cover this time . . . this is a song I've had around of a little while.  Ray Cochrane helped out by laying down an excellent bass track.  My biggest challenge was getting my vocal to sit in the mix where I wanted it.  Fingers-crossed that  I hit close  enough to home.  Hope you enjoy the tune.

This well known Hawaiian hula song was composed in 1920 by Charles E. King. The lyrics of the first four verses were written by J. Kealoha. They tell about the four main islands of Hawaii (Hawaii or Big Island, Maui, Oahu and Kaua, in pic), their own leis and mountains. Later Noelani Mahoe added five more verses about the five other islands of Hawaii.
In my version I sing just the first four verses. I play banjos (Tenor and Plectrum), mandolins (Napolitan and Octave) and guitars. I produced this at my home with Band in a Box and Reaper.

How Can I Help But Love You

I've been a guitarist since the age of 15 and writing songs since then, albeit more prolifically since 2000. I prefer strong melodies and to borrow chords to move outside of the diatonic. Usually, the song mix contains my vocals, guitars and sometimes bass, with drums, keys and other instruments auto-generated. The tracks uploaded in my Soundcloud are attempts to 'illustrate' the idea and sound I imagined when writing the songs. At best, the quality of recordings are demo quality. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear!
