Configurations Of Self label boss Alexander Church delivers another sterling EP with two originals that both get remixed by Jody Barr.

Church is an adventurous artist who has been in the scene since the mid-nineties. He has made everything from melodic soundscapes to industrial techno under a range of aliases and always draws inspiration from his own deep thinking and desire to tell a personal story. His Configurations of Self label has been growing in stature, partly off the back of a series of outstanding EPs from Church and sometime musical partner James Welsh.

Serene opener ‘Use of Self’ is a widescreen deep techno cut with bright synths and a nagging vocal sample that fills the track with soul. It is classy and timeless and the lush melodies make it all the more standout. Remixer Jody Barr quickly climbed through the ranks with music on Krankbrother and Nofitstate to then establish his own label Portable Minds, he is also a close member of Sasha’s Last Night on Earth family. His hardware-centric sound is always rugged and real and he shows that with two remixes. The first is of 'Use of Self’, and it becomes a spaced out and experimental track with dreamy broken beats and reflective synth sequences that ride up and down the scale in cosmic fashion.

Church then delivers ‘Phenomenology’, a beautiful track with skies lit up by subtle melodies and harmonies. They make for a whole eco-system of spine tingling sounds that have you gazing off into the distance. Barr’s remix is more driving, with rubbery kicks and a more manic synth sequence that brings turbulence and turmoil to the astral panes.

These are four more hugely thoughtful and accomplished tracks from Configurations of Self.

It has only taken him a few years, but Daxson has accelerated his way towards delivering some of the most memorable melodies and moments in the history of Coldharbour Recordings.

While We Wait has been tipped by some as being top of the bunch.

The origins of the track stretch to the immediate days of uncertainty, when the world found itself in lockdown as winter turned to spring. While We Wait still remains as powerful a mantra as 2020 approaches its end, and has all the hallmarks of Daxson's outstanding ability to connect an audience with truly memorable and touching melodies.

As Markus Schulz embarked on his In Search of Sunrise 16 exploration, While We Wait was identified as the first essential piece of the journey, and for good reason. We couldn't be more proud of this piece by Daxson, and hope that you will embrace its emotion too.

Born in Chile but now Buenos Aires based, Paula shot into the electronic music spotlight in 2016 with her vocal work on Jos & Eli’s ‘Walking On Water’. Released through long standing German imprint Einmusika, it set the course for what has been a remarkable two year stretch. Paula has since gone on to collaborate with some of progressive music’s most esteemed talents in Antrim and Kamilo Sanclemente. 2017 saw Sound Avenue label boss Madloch introduce Paula’s sublime vocals into his well received Magician On Duty single ‘Deserts & Snow’. A friendship and mutual respect developed between the two artists, eventually leading to Paula’s first and much anticipated solo single in 2019 courtesy of Sound Avenue, alongside remixes from Powel and Adam Nathan.

Talla 2XLC returns to That’s Trance with a massive nearly 8  minutes uplifting trancer called DARKness. His notes for the track:  I am a huge fan of the Netflix TV show "Dark." The atmosphere of this show has inspired me to do an uplifting track dedicated to it”. You can expect a magnificent slice of uplifting trance with the dark moody twist that Talla 2XLC is an expert to inject in his tracks. Powerful bouncy beats, thumping rocking techy drums and most danceable bassline that you will hear in the coming months. The first short breakdown sets the scenery and provides the mysterious tone of the track. The main breakdown is long and cinematic with plenty of ambient sounds to create the sonic soundscape to escape and the explosion of the euphoric synths build the tension until the beat returns for the incredible climax that is uplifting but still dark and unpredictable. Wow, hadn't realised what a journey SoundCloud would take me on.  After many years of passive listening to music I've dieted on a variety of tastes. My appetite for new sounds is undiminished and SC provides plenty of food. I am not a musician and have only recently started to listen positively to the sounds. My early years began listening to music from ABC, The Beatles, The Carpenters Dire Straits Eagles Fleetwood Mac Genesis Elton John Led Zeppelin Gilbert O'Sullivan Rod Stewart Supertramp Tangerine Dream Vangelis The Who and many more.
If you can't spot a trend in my current likes it may be because it is diverse. I love listening to all my playlists which contain tracks that I like and if you like any of the music you must thank the artists not me.
