Hot Track Time Machine

My first 90's dance music mix was really well-received, so when I was given the opportunity to play another set of old school tunes, I jumped at the chance. I've decided to turn this into a proper series and try to get one of these done every once in a while covering all my old tunes up until the mid 2000s (as that's really the limit to the term "old school" or "classic").

This, like the previous mix was recorded live at a gig I played. The gig was on a Saturday afternoon in a park, so the track selection mostly reflects that time/place. As with the previous mix, there are some credible tunes, some questionable choices and some downright cheese. And just like in the previous mix, there are some great mixes, and there are some shonky/lazy ones. Ultimately, this is meant to just be a mix of tracks that will make you say "oh man I remember this!" and hopefully reminisce about some of the happy times you heard each of the tracks.

NOTE - The mix fades out and back in at two points. This is because at the gig there were some seriously strong winds blowing (I'm talking strong enough to knock shit over), and a couple of times we had some dramas with skipping music and other unpleasant things. So rather than subject you to that, I've just removed those moments from the mix. It doesn't interrupt the flow too much, but if it upsets you I'm sorry.

Hot Track Time Machine Vol. 1 (80s & 90s Dance Music)

This is Volume 2 of a series I've started called "Hot Track Time Machine." Essentially, I just dig through my old tunes and chuck together a mix, usually with some sort of theme.

This volume focuses on the fun, funky house and big, balls-out prog of the early to mid 2000's which I absolutely loved at the time and still have a special fondness for. Some of the mixing is a bit meh (I haven't played some of these tunes in 10 years), but hopefully you like the tracks!

Hot Track Time Machine Vol. 2 (Early-Mid 2000's Funky House & Party Prog)

This is the latest edition of my retrospective mix series entitled "Hot Track Time Machine" in which I play some of my favourite tunes of all time from various genres. This edition focuses on the Techno-Meets-Hard-House-Meets-Trance sounds I loved in my mid to late teens (from around 1998-2003) that were pushed by DJs such as Nick Sentience and Fergie. As always with this particular series, the mix is more about the tunes than the mixing (and I haven't played a lot of these tracks in over 10 years) so some of the transitions are a bit wonky, but hopefully you enjoy the tracks as much as I do!

BLENK had the pleasure to play for « ALL KINDS OF HEAVY » the Enemy Records 20th anniversary show in Minneapolis earlier this year, here is the live recording of his 2 hour set. "I tried to balance intense energetic grooves with deeper vibes to keep things interesting and moving fast into the mix."

The fourteenth episode of our podcast series welcomes Paris-based DJ Maemm, co-founder of the collective "La Taquinerie" and a resident DJ at the Parisian club La Gare, Le Gore on Thursdays, with a 60-minute studio recorded mix.

Maemm shapes her sets with various atmospheres, aiming to create immersive journeys rooted in narrative.

Deeply rooted in Berlin’s scene, she’s a local Tresor resident, Hard Wax staffer, part of Coppi collective, and former ://elements co-host. This is the latest in my "Hot Track Time Machine" series, where I dig through my music collection and play some of my favourite tracks from over the years I've been DJing that fit a particular theme. This volume's theme is "Ode To Detroit." 

I'm visiting Detroit in May/June 2016 and am extremely excited not only to see the birthplace of techno, but also explore one of the world's most fascinating cities. So I decided I would put together a mix of some of my favourite tracks from Detroit producers, artists who have been inspired by the Detroit techno and house scene, and tracks which have sampled classic Detroit house/techno tunes. 

As always, the mix is more about the tunes than the technical side of things.

Here is the latest in my Hot Track Time Machine series, a mix series where I go back through my collection and pick out some of my favourite tracks from a certain genre/style/vibe. This time I've selected some of my favourite banging, funky, party techno tunes that I played a lot back in the day, and were regularly played by the likes of Carl Cox, Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Billy Nasty, Slam, etc. This is definitely the most fun and funky techno can get, and these tracks hold a special place in my heart as many of them bring back memories of certain gigs I've played or attended. Hot Track Time Machine Vol. 5 (Funky/Loopy Party Techno Bangers)

Andrew Wowk is a DJ, producer, radio host, promoter, and writer who has been active in the Eora (Sydney) electronic music scene for over 20 years. First introduced to dance music culture through work experience at community radio station Rhythm FM at age 16, Andrew exudes a passion for and knowledge of music that is the result of years of experience.

As a DJ, Andrew has earned a reputation for refined technical skills and eclectic track selection. His tastes run the gamut of techno, house, breakbeat, drum & bass and jungle, electro, and leftfield electronica, demonstrating a deep respect for the history of dance music, a love for its present, and excitement about its future. But even with such a wide range of music at his disposal, he finds ways to combine these numerous sounds into a cohesive whole. Often focused more on telling a story or creating a particular feeling with his sets, he regularly moves fluidly across stylistic boundaries, preferring to find other similarities between tracks than just their genre.

His intelligent approach to DJing has led to him playing at some of Sydney and Australia's most well-respected clubs/events, both as a headliner and as a support act for international artists. He has also received international recognition, being invited to play guest sets at Circus Osaka in Japan, DEPTH and Train Car House Party in Seattle, as well as perform on 313.FM in Detroit, WNYU in New York, and provide mixes for Animal Instinct in Berlin, Fnoob Radio, and Error Sessions in the UK.

Outside of club DJing, Andrew also produces music under the alias End User License Agreement, which has been released on labels such as Biotech Recordings, Baroque Recordings, Extra Spicy, Communication Records, Monarch Recordings, and Late Night Music. His remix of Floor Twenty’s “Say My Name” and his original track “Chonk” were both featured in Beatport’s and Juno's best bass music releases from 2021. He also hosts a weekly radio show "Time To Track" on 2SER, regularly writes for both print and online media, and runs events covering the spectrum of underground dance music, featuring previous headliners such as Dave Clarke, Ben Sims, Marcus Intalex, Regis, Hodge, Adriana Lopez, Djinn, SNTS, and Nastia Reigel. 

Andrew is passionate about social and political issues and strongly believes in using music as a medium for addressing these issues. Much of the music he loves was originally created in tandem with social, cultural, and political movements, and he believes that contemporary music should also carry a message. To put this into practice, he launched Music For Change, a label which donates 100% of profits from all releases to various charities, alongside Jessica Tassone in 2021. Releases on the label have been supported by international artists such as Dave Clarke, Ani Klang, and Alchemist/Amy Kisnorbo, played on BBC Radio 1, and added to the rotation on local radio stations FBI Radio and 2SER.
