Uses Simon,™ Super Simon,™ Merlin,™ Remco's Sound FX Machine™ (The Remco Electronic Sound FX machine uses the Texas Instruments SN76477 analog sound effects chip, perhaps most well-known for being used in the arcade game "Space Invaders"), plus toy ray guns and other sound-making toys from the early 1980's. With roots in Musique concrète, only a small amount of reverberation was used, and any other effects were achieved through manipulation of the recorded tracks.

The title alludes to the "Toy Symphony" (full title: "Cassation in G major for toys, 2 oboes, 2 horns, strings and continuo"), lately attributed to Leopold Mozart.

"'Clever' is the word for Andrew Gelt's Electronic Toy Symphony, a tongue-in-cheek conjuration of sounds produced by cheap [audio] toys, subtitled 'Batteries Not Included.' It is also a take-off on Leopold Mozart's indelible Toy Symphony long attributed to Haydn." -- Miami Herald, 5 November 1983
