My first rendition from the marvellous book of Prelude Fantasies by Stephan Beneking. This one is so lovable to play, with a touch of sadness inside.

As the saying goes: nothing ever ends well, otherwise it would not end. And yet large parts of us still wish things would not end, even after we convince ourselves it is for the best. Is it an act of grace to accept fate and slowly fade away without a fight, or does the universe want to test our resolve and see just how far we are willing to go to obtain, and more importantly perhaps to keep, the object of our desires? It is human not to know; it is human to exist in bewilderment regarding such matters. Being aware of this, however, never makes it any easier. Endings always bring an emptiness in a person's heart and soul. No one ever wants to fail, but sometimes we wait too long to really try in the right ways to truly succeed. The eleventh hour concession is always the hardest case to handle. It leaves one with many doubts. It leaves a person with the hope that things would be, could be, should be, better if only... In such cases the weather can be forever raining in one's heart.

The Idea Of You Cover Art "The Idea Of You" is music inspired by the spirit of Eros and all of its blessings as well as its tribulations. It explores the vicissitudes of romantic love, the delicate seasons and contour of life, and all the lessons learned along the way. Themes of desire, passion, limerence, romantic love, idolatry, jealousy, envy, loss, regret, forgiveness, acknowledgment, appreciation, acceptance, and eventually glimpses of true understanding permeate the work. It attempts to communicate that which so many of us can never quite communicate properly with words. It is an open apology for the clumsy mistakes we all make when coming to maturity in learning how to care selflessly for another human being. It is a gentle reminder as to what is most important in life, as well as an invocation to continuously seek self-improvement regarding our understanding of such matters.

Piano Interrupted is the brainchild of London-based pianist and composer Tom Hodge and French electronic producer Franz Kirmann. Coming from two very different musical worlds (electronica, pop and techno for Franz; classical and minimalism for Tom), the two musicians had been friends for a long time before deciding to make music together.

The Unified Field is Piano Interrupted's 2nd album.

It was recorded in London in the first half of 2013 and features 10 brand new compositions. Kirmann and Hodge began the recording process on Tom's childhood piano, a Pleyel baby grand complete with its own peculiar characteristics and quirky charm. Recordings of Greg Hall's cello followed, as well as the new addition of Tim Fairhall on double bass.

The title of the album comes from David Lynch's book Catching The Big Fish. In the context of his film-making, Lynch explains that if such a field exists then everything within it interconnects in one way or another, so that scenes and elements that may initially seem disconnected from each other emotionally or in terms of meaning, would in fact eventually make sense. This idea seemed particularly fitting in a musical context also, as it neatly captures Piano Interrupted's core music-making methodology; namely to draw upon multiple, varied styles and influences and bring them into one coherent unifying whole.

The Unified Field exhibits many classic Piano Interrupted's traits and tropes, but whereas their debut album Two By Four was all about discovery, the new album is about the deepening musical relationship between Kirmann and Hodge through their continuous exchange of ideas. If Two by Four was an amalgamation album borne of three EPs, then The Unified Field is a much more focused and concise snapshot of Piano Interrupted's approach.

The new album simultaneously refers back to the intense intricacy of early EPs whilst building on developments from Piano Interrupted's live explorations and improvisations as well as the extended recording techniques and filmic sound of the Papa Hedi EP. Dense arrangements of fragile piano, colourful cinematic soundscapes, organic rhythmic textures and rich, warm strings provoke a diverse range of emotions. The Unified Field is both a seductive, one-time listening experience and a record to return to again and again to reveal its intricate secrets and subtleties.

This is your song. I wrote the main parts of it in the first month of our relationship as we were falling in love. I've played parts of it for you before many times, but I had never finished it. I have now evolved it into its complete form. This is how I choose to remember you. I focus on the positives; I idealize and romanticize you. My idea of you remains loving and longing even if we are not meant to be. My idea of you persists and looks past challenges despite how difficult they may seem. I believe our ideas and our ideals create our own reality and therefore it is always best to imagine perfection however we may desire it to be. This song is reflection of all the love and gentleness we shared during good times. Ultimately it is a song of optimism even in the face of adversity. Its verses and chapters moves sideways like the astrological crab that you are, but there is deep beauty in it, and in the end it gets to were it wants to go and finds happiness and peace. "Most terribly cold it was; it snowed, and was nearly quite dark, and evening-- the last evening of the year. In this cold and darkness there went along the street a poor little girl, bareheaded, and with naked feet. ..."

Hydras Dream is a special collaboration between the Swedish musicians ANNA VON HAUSSWOLFF and MATTI BYE (winner of the Guldbaggen 2014 price for scoring the film drama "Faro" and composer of the film score for "The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared"). The concept behind this project is to interpret stories, movies and myths into musical landscapes. For their debut album "The Little Match Girl", von Hausswolff and Bye construed the beautiful and melancholic story by H.C. Andersen of the same title. Asked about the reason for this particular choice, the two musicians state: "It was her tragic faith in the winter's cold that inspired us. She is freezing to death with no money and no comfort, she is all alone, dreaming of a warmer place. When death strikes her she is filled with magical illusions and dreams. Oddly enough, hypothermia and death are the only two comfort zones we experience in this story. Sad but beautiful."

"... The lights [...] rose higher and higher, she saw them now as stars in heaven; one fell down and formed a long trail of fire. "Someone is just dead!" said the little girl; for her old grandmother, the only person who had loved her, and who was now no more, had told her, that when a star falls, a soul ascends to God. She drew another match against the wall: it was again light, and in the lustre there stood the old grandmother, so bright and radiant, so mild, and with such an expression of love. ..."

The music of Hydras Dream is mostly made through improvisation and by using repetitious patterns and melodies. Indeed, the two musicians state "We want to use intuition and spontaneity as two key elements in the compositions, and therefore we don't pre-record anything. We just play whatever feels good and fits the theme and press rec." Thus it is no surprise that "The Little Match Girl" was written and recorded during only three days in Matti Bye's studio. Exploring the entire spectrum of their instruments, von Hausswolff and Bye ingeniously combined their virtuosity in order to craft an eclectic and delicate album, located somewhere inbetween neo-classical experimentalism and avantgarde dream-pop. One can virtually image how the notes of this debut faintly resound behind the candle-lit windows which separate the little match girl from the life-saving warmth, how their echoes join her in her inevitable fate ...

"... But in the corner, at the cold hour of dawn, sat the poor girl, with rosy cheeks and with a smiling mouth, leaning against the wall -- frozen to death on the last evening of the old year. [...] "She wanted to warm herself," people said. No one had the slightest suspicion of what beautiful things she had seen; no one even dreamed of the splendor in which, with her grandmother she had entered on the joys of a new year."

I’m still in love with you. 

We haven’t exchanged thoughts in…a while. Feels like days have escalated into years it seems. Even though you probably won’t see or hear this…how are you? Are you well? Have you met someone who’s soul matches yours?

I just woke up from one of those “real” dreams just now. Y’know the ones that almost feel like they happened in real life? The ones so vivid, your brain confuses it as a memory of some sort. Yeah, one of those dreams. It was one of those dreams you wake up from and think “Damn…but it felt so real!” …I hate those dreams. But I can’t help but love them too. 

Also, I… don’t think I’ve ever seen myself that happy before….it was actually quite the awkward experience. Then again, maybe it was just weird seeing us together.  Waking up, my heart has never felt so fragile and strong at the same time… it was interesting to dwell upon so I made this song to remember the feeling.

I remember reading that you can only know how much you truly love someone until they’re gone. It makes more and more sense now that I think about it. 

To me, falling in love is a lot like falling into a crack in the earth. As soon as you fall, you freak out but… at the same time you accept it. Before you know it, you’ve reached the bottom. It felt like you were gonna die but, surprisingly you survived. 

When you look up, theres a fine line of light representing who you used to be. Do you choose to stay? Or attempt at climbing back up?

Choosing the latter never felt so bittersweet. 
I hope your doing well, in my dreams we may meet. 
…maybe please.

After releasing Nils Frahm’s two-track solo synthesiser EP ‘Juno’ in a highly sought after 7” edition, Erased Tapes now re-release the original Juno tracks with guest reworks by Border Community's modular synth wizard Luke Abbott and Warp veteran Clark. Both known for their like-minded use of analogue synthesisers in their music, it makes them the perfect artists to rework the originals. Similar to Frahm’s online project ‘Screws Reworked’, where he invited fans to download his solo piano songs to reinterpret them with their own medium of choice, it’s far from being the typical remix EP.
