"Symphony of Machines" is a 30 minutes long audiovisual act with developed dramaturgy, which reminds of romantic symphonic poem or rhapsody. In spite of the name, "Symphony of Machines" is more flexible and even lyrical than mechanical and urban. VJ material is based on the black-and-white video shots featuring machinery or mechanical acts of various nature. Music is represented by consequently changing, bright in character fragments with accents either on harmony or noise.

This is representative of the type of material that will find its way onto the third solo piano album.  The first album takes inspiration from romantic love.  The second, from family, friends, and social groups of one form or another.  The third is more spiritual, meditative, and minimalistic and takes pride in the rests as much as the notes.  

In theme one could summarize thus:  eros, philos, and agape...

The Ancient Ones is a thematic and textural ambient work composed and produced in 2013 employing a hypnotic and meditative blend of custom sound-design, mirco-tonality, spectral constructs, image-based compositions, code generated synthesis, procedural mathematics, granular synthesis, analog synthesis, minimal acoustic piano, and lots of reverb and spatialization from 2CAudio B2 and Aether . The Ancient Ones imagines a time long before humanity as it exists now and vividly paints a mesmerising aural landscape of this fantastical vision.

A collaboratively edited version of Wayfarer's The Ancient Ones is being used for the 2014 feature film Mandorla directed by the incredible Roberto Miller. The primary composer and music director for the project is American ambient music legend Robert Rich. The film also features music by Michael Stearns, AES Dana and other ambient music leaders. It's truly an honor for Wayfarer to be included in this project, as many of these pioneers were early influences on Andrew's work and interest in electronic music.

Wayfarer is a project name Andrew Souter uses for the deepest of deep ambient space music. This is music that is meant to invoke a sense of traveling without moving to remote and unknowable reaches of outer and inner space. Wayfarer projects are more sound environments than music in the traditional sense. They are intended to invoke a sense of ineffable awe at the magnificence of the universe, and give a fleeting sense of connection to some form of universal non-human intelligence. Despite, or rather perhaps because of, its humble abstract nature, this is meditative music that implicitly asks big questions, and hopefully inspires big ideas.

"Whitespace" is the first of the Wayfarer series. This two hour sonic odyssey is a collection of thematic and textural ambient deep cruisers that are certain to be the impetus of a myriad forms of outward journeys and inward discoveries. The atmospheric, mood-inducing soundscapes of Whitespace make a perfect compliment to mediation, relaxation, deep concentration, lucid dreaming, quiet introspection, various spiritual practices, star gazing, and various other formative life experiences. To borrow words from Stephen Hill, founder of Hearts Of Space, this is "slow music for fast times".

Themes of desire, passion, limerence, romantic love, idolatry, jealousy, envy, loss, regret, forgiveness, acknowledgment, appreciation, acceptance, and eventually glimpses of true understanding permeate the work. It attempts to communicate that which so many of us can never quite communicate properly with words. It is an open apology for the clumsy mistakes we all make when coming to maturity in learning how to care selflessly for another human being. It is a gentle reminder as to what is most important in life, as well as an invocation to continuously seek self-improvement regarding our understanding of such matters.

Canon explores the 'quantum' state between the polarities of classical and electroacoustic traditions. It is both classical and electroacoustic at the same time. Original voice is a recording of an upright piano and counterpoint voices are derived by the means of electroacoustic processing. Yet I tried to make them sound as much organic as possible, so one could experience the composition as a sort of quasi-canon. On the other hand, the piano recording could be interpreted as a sound object, what is suggested иy the presence of the background ambient noise, which is close to the  field recording aesthetics. Composition's electronic nature becomes even more evident close to the end, when voices are cut in explicitly electroacoustic manner.

The brief to the artists was simple, take an existing Places Series track and re-imagine it, make it your own, find your strangely isolated place.

A year in the making, this compilation features 18 tracks, over two hours of music, ranging from gentle ambient, to dramatic scores and atmospheric dub-techno, all mastered by the legendary Rafael Anton Irisarri (Ghostly/The Sight Below).

Notorious artists such as Markus Guentner, A.P, dalot and Parks feature alongside other ASIP favourites and talented newcomers such as Norge, Kit and Sonae to make this compilation a varied yet accurate portrayal of the type of music featured on A Strangely Isolated Place over the years.

We're hoping to press the compilation to a double, transparent vinyl edition and have set-up an indiegogo campaign to help fund this project. As part of the project, you can purchase the vinyl alongside tshirts, posters and a limited edition CDr + case made by Kevin Bryce.

Any support you can give to help get word out and help us fund the project would be really appreciated. It will be our first physical release and a very special one to help celebrate five-years of ASIP this August.
