HATE - BAD HISTORY - SIDE A

Back in 2010, Gilles Peterson recorded a special Brownswood Basement show focusing on the evolution of drum & bass through the 90s and into the 00s. It was by no means a comprehensive history of the genre, but it did represent an excellent snapshot of the tunes that struck a chord with Gilles back then. 100% vinyl (and acetates), Gilles spent the best part of a day rummaging through hundreds of records and picked out around 40 then @alex-patchwork got deep in the mix. Part 1 dropped last week, and here is Part 2 that made up that show - no links, jingles or drops - just the music. We hope you enjoy it.

Since debuting in 2007, his releases have traversed along the electronic spectrum from footwork and jungle, to drone and post-rock, rave, house and techno, never straying far from a melodic backbone. For the last couple of years he's found a home on the fabric-run @houndstoothlbl imprint full of soaring, pulsating, dynamic and atmospheric dancefloor cuts.

Lo Shea returns to his Hope Works label for the second time in 2016 next week (Monday 24th October) with his ‘Modulate’ EP. Bristol pioneer Hodge has turned in a remix of ‘Primitive Operations’ from it, and we’ve got the exclusive premiere of it above.

The remix from the Berceuse Heroique and Livity Sound man is heavyweight yet emotive, with big echoing harmonies floating above firmly rooted drums.

Sheffield artist and label boss Lo Shea is at the heart of the northern techno scene in terms of his DJ and studio output, but also as musical director at Hope Works. The raw warehouse venue is a hive of creativity thanks to its constantly forward thinking parties, and the in house label is much the same.
