The tarmac breathes, a mirage in the heat

Baobabs stand like sentinels of time
Their ancient hearts in rhythm with the rhyme
Of a drum we feel, but never truly hear
Calling us forward, dissolving every fear.

This Wapor trail, a neon scar
We're chasing sunsets in a moving car
In Africa, we are.

The city falls away, a grid of fading gold
A story in the rust, a thousand tales untold
We climb the Sani Pass, the air is thin and clear
The world below, a postcard from last year.
A herd of springbok, static in the grass
Then a sudden burst of motion as we pass
A fleeting frame of beauty, sharp and true
Etched on the retina, a memory made new.
