I've been listening to this song for a month and just realized that Willow Smith is Will + Jada Pinkett Smith's daughter... *mindblown*.  
The rhythm in this song grabs me, it feels tribal or instinctive, a survival chant powerful enough to guide you out of your mind when it gets too thick in there to find the exit alone.

Early Dosh.  from 1998.  never released.  Recorded and mixed at Third Ear by Tom Cesario.  No loops here folks.  I just wanted to share it with you.  this was my first time in a real studio.  Tom Herbers' old place.  Amazing room.  This is all multitracked to 2 inch tape.  the playing and idea may be a little off, but the sounds are great.  B3, rhodes, piano, drums, junk..... it was a great few days there, and this is the best thing to come out of it.....

I first sang this song in 2010 when my friend Mauro Durante invited me to perform with his band Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino at the festival Le Notte Bianca in Puglia. 'Bella ci dormi' was traditionally sung by musicians under the balconies of women who were being proposed to but the tradition of the serenade and the custom of paying a musician to sing as a gesture of love has all but disappeared. Even if the concept of the serenade could do with a little C21st tweaking, I can’t help thinking that making a mixtape or a digital playlist for someone doesn’t have quite the same romantic quality as being sung to under a balcony in the light of the full moon but I may be wrong! 
 
Mauro visited me recently at home as we were writing the lyrics for a song on the new album called Bring down the wall, my words in English, his in the Salentino dialect. In between writing lyrics, we also found the time to record together a new cover for Vol II of Songs I Love.

Here’s 'Bella Ci Dormi', as always it’s a simple, no frills recording with Mauro on violin and me on guitar. I really hope you’ll enjoy it!

Variations In The Key Of Afterlife is the first release derived from the collaborative effort between Luke Henshaw (Planet B, Sonido de la Frontera) and Gabe Serbian (The Locust, Dead Cross, Head Wound City, Le Butcherettes, etc.). Many different descriptions come to mind when trying to put a finger on the sound they have created: Cinematic, Space Rock, Funky Avant-Garde are a few. One might even venture to label it post-prog. Variations is an instrumental journey through a digital cosmos filled with analog planets and electric stars. It’s chock full of huge drums and moving instrumentation, provided by a large selection of different instruments from Bass, Sax, Flute, and String section to Fender Rhodes, MPC, Mellotron, and Brass section. Luke Henshaw is the man behind the breakbeats from the legendary Needle Thrashers DELTA and GAMMA. A talented producer as well as musician, he has the vision to bring artists of many styles and backgrounds together, outside of their element, to create a unique, and thought provoking sound. Gabe Serbian is a hard hitting drummer and multi-instrumentalist for such powerhouse groups as The Locust and ZU. Serbian was named one of the Top 100 Drummers of Alternative Rock by SPIN Magazine. Rightly so, as his drumming is as much pounding as it is dynamic.
