Change Request | RiteOnRed - Dufflebag Recordings

As a traditional musician, Andrew Emil has worked as a keyboardist, arranger, and an orchestrator on recording sessions and productions.

His composition and studio productions have ranged from concert works and sound design to film scoring stages and hundreds of releases of electronic music productions. 

Cutting his teeth at the former Chicago Trax Recording Studios, after a life in live music performance in orchestras to punk rock ensembles, he crafted a reputation for House Music productions in Chicago under his own name, as well as Broadway & Wilson, and Uptown Tones. 

2012 saw the emergence of his epithet, Change Request, with the Change Theory EP on four play music. This new persona allowed the freedom to explore hybrids of mid-tempo live instrument focused jazz-dance-fusion. 

Following this release was “After All” on Seasons Recordings, with another single thereafter featuring house music icon, Chez Damier, “I Wanna Go Back”, including a remarkable rework from Glenn Underground, on Glenview Records. 

2018 saw the emergence of the second generation of the Change Request moniker with Emotive Emotion EP on Natural Rhythm Music, debuting tracks such as “Pieces Of A Dream”, “Sidewalk” and “This Time Around”. 

Remixing artists along the way, including “Electricity” on Colette’s Candy Talk imprint and three songs for electronic pop duo Dirty Sole, Emil created AstraVox Music with the award-winning Los Angeles-based composer, Mr. Nathaniel, as a home for his increasing catalog of incidental dramatic musical compositions. 

The ever-growing collection of songs and musical dialogue eventually led to the conceptual album series from Change Request. Each full-length effort containing a completely separate story and scored via its own unique incidental subtext. 

The first of this series sees him diving into a Québécois fable of love lost and unrequited desire with “RiteOnRed” for Dufflebag Recordings. 

This ten-track album is an explicit emotive journey into the depths of love lost, heartache, and tangled introspection. An eclectic musical voyage, ​RiteOnRed​ imagines a world of musical noir, infatuation, and unrequited desire through its rhythmic posturing, sonic coloring, and languishing lieder.

Andrew Emil // Change Request 

A preeminent artist of Chicago's 3rd wave, Andrew Emil is one of house music’s most staunch stalwarts. A concert-trained percussionist since age 11, he earned a chair in his native Kansas City Symphony before eventually moving to Chicago. 

As a traditional musician, Andrew Emil has worked as a keyboardist, arranger, and an orchestrator on recording sessions and productions, cutting his teeth at the former Chicago Trax Recording Studios. 

Credited on over 200+ recordings, his composition and studio productions have ranged from concert works and sound design to film scoring stages and hundreds of releases of electronic music productions. 

After a life in live music performance, from orchestra percussion sections to punk rock ensembles, he crafted a reputation for House Music productions in Chicago under his own name, as well as Broadway & Wilson, and Uptown Tones. 

One of the earlier innovators of the “Jackin House” genre under the Broadway & Wilson moniker with Jeff Bloom, Andrew is never content to stay in one place or style of musical thought for very long. 

He is the only recording artist to do production work simultaneously for Derrick Carter’s Classic Music Company, Mark Farina’s Great Lakes Audio, Gene Farris’ Farris Wheel Recordings, and four-time GRAMMY nominee Steve “Silk” Hurley’s S&S Records.

A string of double-digit singles for prominent labels, including remixes for artists such as Common, Kanye West, Little Louie Vega, Jamie Principle, Steve "Silk" Hurley, Iz & Diz, Fast Eddie, Shalamar, Roland Clark, David Morales, Colette, Amp Fiddler, JT Donaldson, and Gene Farris, to name a few.

Most people look one in the eye to try to sum up a person’s soul or read 
emotions. To read Brian, you would be wiser to listen to one of his sets.
Brian's range of emotional expression is wide and deep and his sets reflect what he is feeling
at that moment. Whether his set is comprised of the jazzy, soulful grooves of content
and harmony, or the hard hitting intensity and angst of industrial techno; 
at the end of the day, to Brian, it's all HOUSE.

People have described Brian as, "a big ball of energy, giving himself over the
turntables, as he tries to let the spirit be it". That kind of spiritual energy,
focus, and drive has lead Brian to his current position among Chicago's finest.
Brian gained knowledge of the underground sound while he worked as a buyer at Chicago Record store staples (Hot Jams, Hip House, WaxADDICT) from 1999-2006. During that time, Brian made many connections that lead to a series of successful residencies and bookings at various Chicago Venues, Lofts, and club nights such as; Mad Bar (Music-101), Boom Boom Room, Darkroom, Smart Bar, ROOTS, Sub-T, I Love House Music Wednesdays, along with many others.

For the past two decades, Brian has consistently performed throughout North America
alongside some of the greats for packed crowds in internationally recognized venues. 
He dipped his hands into the realm of theater in 2000, when he worked with Asylum 137 
on a dark theatre production featuring European and Native American clowning. The  
diverse soundtrack encompassed house, techno, classical opera, and a "cirque du soleil" 
style of music. Through ownership of Soul Foundation Recordings in Las Vegas, a highly 
respected collective of artists based in Chicago with a global following, Brian is dedicated 
to reviving what some would say has “been lost” in house music. 

With productions on labels like Farris Wheel Recordings, Minuendo Recordings (Spain), RealDEEP Recordings, Thought Records & remixes on Black Error Recordings (SA) or his own imprint Soul Foundation Recordings, this Disc
Jockey/Producer is undoubtedly tied to music as a part of his being. According
to him, "Music is the only religion I have; it definitely saved me." Whether
Brian is spinning or producing, his sound is unmistakably from the soul...
