A bipedal familiar looming in the peripheral of the other.
At their feet, hidden memories unravel under the surface of a cloudy mire. 
They climb up a waterlogged tree and etch a word of advice into the bark:
“Be careful not to lose your mourning cloak - it might come in handy later.”
