Andrew Heslop was one of those people who seemed to be everywhere all at once. He’d be there on breakfast television in the morning; in your social media feeds across the day then pop up on radio late at night. He was on the board of midsumma in Melbourne; gave the keynote speech at Fair Day to launch Sydney Mardi Gras in 2009; spoke at the United Nations in New York; and in between had a high flying executive career across not-for-profit, corporate and government sectors.
 
He worked in politics for the Deputy Premier of NSW and was being sounded out as a candidate to be Lord Mayor of Melbourne.
 
In 2003 Andrew founded what has become Australia’s annual celebration of community, Neighbour Day, after the body of an elderly woman was found in her home two years after she had died. Sunday 27th March 2022 will be the 20th Neighbour Day, an event which has grown and grown every year.

But just when Andrew’s career was beginning to peak, when so many options and choices were presenting, it all suddenly stopped after a critical health incident caused him to re-evaluate his life.

In January 2019 Andrew returned to mainstream media as a radio broadcaster with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation after a 25 year career in marketing and executive management. Primarily working with ABC Emergency his role communicated critical information from the lead emergency agency in each state and territory to communities under threat. During the 2019/20 bushfire season he was part of the Walkley Award winning team responsible for bringing listeners to ABC Regional and Local stations in metropolitan and regional Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia the latest information 24/7.
