It was composed by the band at St. Charles Borromeo parish in Arlington, Virginia and has become an annual tradition at Our Lady, Queen of Peace, also in Arlington.

Step by step
One more breath
On the way
To conquer death.

1)	Jesus is condemned to death

“Behold the man!
What evil has He done?
He testifies to the truth.
I find no guilt in Him.
Take him yourself.
I wash my hands of this.”

2)	The cross is laid upon Him

Upon His back
Beaten and whipped and torn,
Is placed the weight of the cross;
The weight of the whole world.
And heavy on his head,
A mocking crown of thorns.


3)	His first fall

So helpless now,
His face is in the dust.
He healed the lame so they could walk,
But he cannot walk now.
Lying at our feet,
Will no one help at all?

4)	He meets His blessed mother

His mother cries.
She reaches out her hands.
She used to kiss his every wound,
And lift him when he fell.
Her loving arms
Feel so empty now.


5)	Simon of Cyrene is made to bear the cross

Who are these men?
What do they want of me?
I am just a man passing by,
The road to Calvary.
Pressed into service,
I’m forced to take this cross.


6)	Veronica wipes the face of Jesus

Blood sweat and tears,
Run down the face of Christ.
The face of peace twisted in pain.
Will no one help this man?
She reaches out,
And wipes the face of God.


7)	Jesus falls for the second time

Deep in the crowd
I cannot see his face,
Just the spearheads of the guards.
They keep a brutal pace.
The shouting has grown loud,
He’s fallen to the ground.
 
8)	Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem 
 	Don’t weep for me
-
Daughters of Jerusalem
-
-
Indeed, worse days will come.


9)	Jesus falls for the third time

He falls again
And my hope falls too.
I thought that He’d deliver us,
But now what can he do?
Or is this not the end?
We watch him rise again.


10)	Jesus is stripped of his clothes

The soldiers sneer,
As they strip him bare.
No royal clothes to fit this king.
He stands now as he came.
This is the word made flesh,
For all the world to see.



Raised on high,
One last breath.
You alone,
Will conquer death.



11)	Jesus is nailed to the cross

Pounding nails 
In hands that blessed.
Pounding nails 
In hands that blessed.

12)	Jesus dies on the cross

Then He cried out,
My God, my God.

Forsaken me?
